Night Mare's Party · 8:29pm Sep 25th, 2013

Okay guys, seriously: Cook and Price are like unto some kind of comics gods. If this leaked page (SPOILERS, obviously) is any indication, MLP issue #11 is overflowing with win.

In honor of pony Oingo Boingo being (*edit:) comic-canon now, here's another of The Mystic Knights Of The Electric Stable's greatest hits:

NIGHT MARE'S PARTY

I'm armored up with nowhere to go
Stars are in the sky, moon on the horizon
I'm armored up with nowhere to go
Stars are in the sky, moon on the horizon

Waiting for my dear Celestia to concede
Planning out a party Equestria now needs
Waiting for my dear Celestia to concede
Planning out a party Equestria now needs

(CHORUS)
I embraced the darkness
Flowing in my veins
I was wronged, and now you all shall feel my pain
It's a Night Mare's party
Let them scream and pray
Remember well the sunlight, for this will be your last day
For this will have been the world's last day

Don't beg for mercy, turn and flee (turn and flee)

I'm armored up with nowhere to go
Moon on the horizon … (moon on the horizon …)
Waiting for my dear Celestia to concede
Moon on the horizon … (moon on the horizon …)

Start again in the Everfree
One face on the bits in my monarchy
Hear my sister coming to the door
Says she's found a way to stop the war

(CHORUS)

Don't beg for mercy, turn and flee
No light can stop the fear you cannot see
Don't beg for mercy, turn and flee
No light can stop the fear you caaaaaan't see

Turn and flee …

(CHORUS)

Don't beg for mercy, turn and flee
No light can stop the fear you cannot see
Don't beg for mercy, turn and flee
No light can stop the fear you caaaaaan't see

Turn and flee (OUT)

EDIT: I've added this to my micro-fic collection Horizontal Lines where it belongs. For other lyrics and nifty short fiction unpublished anywhere else, go take a look!

I... really probably should read this, yes?

I mean, I don't actually buy that Shiny was a high school nerd-colt, and accepting this as canon totally ruins my aspirations to work close to canon on my own stuff, but I'm beginning to feel the crushing hoof of inevitability coming down.

As far as canonicity is concerned, I wouldn't get too unsettled about it. This is, after all, the same comic series which parodied bronies as cave trolls. The comic is chock full of sly and unsubtle fanservice nods, and I'm pretty certain that while it is "canon" in the sense that it is an Official Hasbro Product, it occupies its own continuity that won't be reflected back into the show. (For example, the issues #5-8 arc also had Applejack lasso the moon and the Mane Six plus Luna all walk up a rope to the lunar surface, where they met a giant civilization of nightmare smoke creatures that Luna lived among during her exile, and corrupted Rarity into Nightmare Rarity. If you can picture the actual show doing this, you are a better man than I.)

I have enjoyed the comic, but I do not feel obligated in any way to bend my stories to it.

1375549 I feel the same way about Shining Armor and Cadence merely existing.

You're not alone. Horizon, what was the comment from EFNW about my pet princess? Something about turd-polishing? :pinkiehappy:

Yes, I'm not ACTUALLY going to let it bother me. There was a part of me that looked at the decade or so immediately prior to the series opener once upon a time, and this part of me said "Score! I can do anything I want! They'll never develop this time period!" Yyyeah.

This is, after all, the same comic series which parodied bronies as cave trolls.

Which was awesome. And hilarious.

@Sky: In deference to your fondness for a pony who is inarguably one of Equestria's four best princesses, I will feign a convenient memory lapse.
:twilightblush:

(One thing I do remember saying, though: I respect Cadence as a character almost wholly on the strength of your stories.)

I don't know, I've got a lot of sympathy for Shining being protrayed as a gamer who hangs around with the non-popular bunch. I can see their ten year reunion now, Prince Consort Shining Armor and Princess Cadence meeting back up with their now-rich friends including 8-bit, who now owns Microtrot Computing.... (isn't that him in the upper-right corner of the picture)

"Neigh Anything......"

I've been into 80's music and movies since I was a little kid. I was (At the risk of sounding like a hipster) into 80's music and movies before it was cool.

By the way, I love how Thunderlane has Flock of Seagulls hair, Caramel has a mullet, Soarin looks like Marty McFly, and Lyra's hair as well. :rainbowlaugh:

I was into 80's music and movies when I was a kid, too, but back then we called them "contemporary". *sigh*

Y'know, for all that, though, I never saw the official music video for "In Your Eyes", one of my favorite love songs of all time. It's a shame I can't take it as seriously as I might have, since it incorporates vintage clips from "Design for Dreaming", which was absolutely shredded by the good folks at MST3k a while back. :pinkiehappy:

Also, I just noticed that we now have Vinyl Scratch's cutie mark story. :yay:

Hipsterism got a lot easier for me when I realized that, since various elements of culture come in and out of fashion in a cyclical fashion, it's almost mathematically impossible to not be hip if you simply choose to like something which isn't in fashion. If the hipsters don't consider it cool yet, it just means you're further ahead of the curve than they are. If the thing you like is just now falling out of fashion, you're not behind the times — you're the first pioneer of the future revival. (You don't even have to be ironic or retro about it, because irony comes in and out of fashion just like fashion or music.)

All of which is to say, the 80s have always been cool. What the hell were they thinking? I don't know. But it was cool.

I didn't want to drop spoilers in the main blog post, to be kind to MLP comics readers, but yes! I noticed that! And frankly, this is one place where I am perfectly happy to shout HEADCANON ACCEPTED. :pinkiehappy:
