State of the Prose: Feb. 2014

Well, quite a bit has changed. I'm now an admin of The Writer's Group, my last semester ended poorly, and as of last week I quit my job to go full-time student for the last year of my bachelor's. The first week of classes ended yesterday. Stressful kinda begins to describe it, but many things are changing for me. More than a few for

    Two years!

Two years of being on Fimfiction. I joined a little over five months after becoming a brony. I never check EqD regularly, but by chance I came across a fanfic update post. The fic that caught my eye? The First Light of Dawn by Cold in Gardez. Quite an excellent piece of

    The Writer's Group contest!

I'm a bit behind on editing for others and editing for Changelings Change Everything, largely because life decided to throw me a curveball. Nothing immediately serious, but I might end up having to find a new job in this wonderful economy. Yay.

    Changelings Change Everything posting date

Hello again! In my progress update earlier this week, I gave you a snippet of my upcoming story, Changelings Change Everything. I also told you I'd have a posting date set by the end of the week. It's the end of the week. So, when will my first chapter be posted?

    Once it passes approval!

The State of the Prose: September 2013 · 5:35am Sep 7th, 2013

Hello, everyone! Since I keep accumulating followers after talking about my stories, I figured I'd give you all an update on my progress. The reason I haven't published anything yet is a horrible combination of perfectionism, procrastination, and a burnout following the spring's Semester of Hell™. For the last, never take four literature classes at once. Twenty-five novels. Essaypocalypse. Never. Again.

But, here's the good news. I'm picking up steam and working on the very definitively, absolutely, certainly last final draft of my upcoming fic, Changelings Change Everything.

"But Idle," you say, "changeling stories are way overdone!"

Actually, this is about Luna and Celestia. The summary:

Equestria's long peace is broken by the changeling invasion of Canterlot. Princess Luna must take command of Equestria's armed forces even as she struggles with the shadows of her past. When the dust settles, Princess Celestia sees the cost of her mistakes and doubts her ability to rule. In the end, they both know the threat posed by Chrysalis must be stopped—even if it means war.

And cover art, for your consideration:

The first of three chapters will be about 8000 words, and I will update later with my expected posting date and a teaser or two. Tags are Adventure and Dark. There will be a sequel.

Now, CCE isn't the only story I've talked about. There are two other projects for which I've laid groundwork:

Mirror Universe (working title) [Adventure, Dark, Alternate Universe] - Twilight discovers an alternate Equestria where the Elements of Harmony failed to stop Discord originally, forcing both Princesses to turn Nightmare in order to defeat him. Once they began to battle each other, the world became locked between everlasting day and eternal night, forcing ponies to eke out a harsh life in the narrow zone of habitability between extremes.

Scootaloo the Vampire Slayer [Adventure, Dark, Crossover (fusion-type), Alternate Universe, (Comedy?)] - Scootaloo becomes Equestria's newest Slayer, a lone mare with the strength and skill to fight vampires, demons, and other supernatural threats. Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle offer their support, but the dark forces converging on Ponyville are too strong for them to face alone. With the help of an excitable yet skilled Watcher, Lyra Heartstrings, the three must find allies and discover their talents.

(can you tell I like Adventure/Dark fics?)

In addition to those, I have too many a few more ideas that haven't gone away, but I'm not sure if I'll pick up:

The Long Goodbye [Sad] - Twilight contracts a rare disease that causes progressive memory loss. (not sure if I can/want to pull it off, not to mention 'something happens to Twilight and her friends have to deal with it' is apparently a big thing)

(Unnamed) [Romance] - Braeburn and Octavia meet in Canterlot and find a few things in common. (OctaScratch tears are delicious)

(Unnamed) [Human, Alternate Universe, Adventure] - The Kingdom of Griffonia appears in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. (Equestria on Earth is overdone; not so sure about the griffons. I'd love to explore non-pony worldbuilding and realistic human politics if given the chance)

Be Careful What You Wish For [Slice of Life, Human, (Tragedy? Comedy?)] - A naive brony wants to be a pegasus in Ponyville, but ends up as an earth pony hundreds of miles away. (also possibly overdone even with a few spins on the usual tale)

That's all for now. Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day; at dawn, look to the east I will keep you all updated on the progress of my current work. In the meantime, feel free to vouch for any of the listed ideas that strikes your fancy! I'm not exactly writing for popularity, but it's still good to know what's wanted.
