How this will work · 4:42pm Jul 22nd, 2012
Okay people, here’s what’s going on: this is no ordinary collaboration fic, because I’m going to be asking you (yes, YOU) for help in writing it. Until this fic is finished, the most recently posted chapter in this story will always start off as nothing more than a prompt or a basic set of bullet points. Your job is to make suggestions in the comments for how the chapter should play out in more detail; or, if you would like to try your hand at writing the chapter yourself, then put the fruits of your labor into a Google Doc and PM me a link, or email it to me at supersmartsam@gmail.com with the subject line "Half Moon Rising Chapter X" (you will be credited if I choose to use it). Be warned, I will not be incorporating every suggestion, and while I will happily edit and proofread your chapter submissions, there is no guarantee that I will use them. In order to keep too many cooks from spoiling the soup, I will have final say in what stays and what goes, but I promise that I will do my best to choose the best out of everything I receive.
I will also be writing the first and last chapters entirely by myself, and portions of the intervening chapters to make sure it follows my overarching vision (and to keep the prompts from spoiling the story for you), but as a result, I will be better able to make the seed I start you all off with extremely flexible, so it is much easier to adapt to your writing style. If you have always wanted to try writing a fic yourself, but never had any good ideas or were worried that people wouldn’t like your work, this is an excellent opportunity for you. I welcome all submissions from experienced fic writers with the time to help, but for all you new writers out there, just think of this as a writing exercise where you are given a common MLP fanfiction scene type and have to write your version of that sort of scene.
The first chapter is up, the second chapter’s prompt is posted, and I look forward to hearing your suggestions and receiving your submissions!
EDIT: As the experiment has gone on, I've discovered a few additional aspects I probably ought to clarify.
-Your submission doesn't need to be a finalized draft. I don't care in the slightest about spelling, grammar, or structure when picking which submission I'll use. Once you've made the transition from outline to rough draft, it is ready for submitting.
-Just focus on the prompt provided and the previous chapters when writing, and not on whether it will fit with my vision for the story. While I have the overarching plot planned out, the specific details are not even close to being set in stone. I would much rather change my vision of the story's future details to conform to the best submission than force all submissions to conform to my vision. It's much more dynamic that way, much more fun, and gives complete freedom to you when writing.
no offense but this is confusing...
58909 How so? It seems pretty simple to me. What are you confused about?
i guess it's just cuz i've never done one before
58917 Well, this isn't how they're usually done. Usually with collaboration fics, two or more people get together and write the various parts. I don't think I've ever seen an open participation collaboration fic before, so this just might be the first of its kind. If you're confused about something, just ask.
I'll participate, also

Just look at the way he types and you can tell why he/she is confused by this.
