Starting Out

Hello to anyone who may care to take the time to read this! Today I've posted my first chapter of my first story to this website (and also to fanfiction.net), Fate/Amicitia. For those unfamiliar, the story is a crossover between Friendship is Magic, and the Fate/Stay Night franchise created by Kinoko Nasu. Amicitia is latin for Friendship of course. I can only hope you'll forgive my pretention, titles aren't my strongest suit.

I've had the idea for this story for a while now. I can't say I totally recall what the spark for this particular cross was, but once I had it I kept getting more and more ideas for it, and eventually just decided to go all the way and try writing it all out.

I write fanfiction a lot, or least come up with ideas for it a lot, but I've never really gone through the trouble of publishing it before. The only story I've put out on the proverbial market before this one was a novelization of one of my Pokemon Nuzlocke Runs over on their homepage forums, and unfortunately due to difficult time commitments I was forced to put it on hiatus for so long that I just never went back to it. Ended it on a cliffhanger too, I'm sure some reader out there has a voodoo doll with my name on it.

So, this will be an exciting experiment for me, and I hope anyone who cares to read my work enjoys themselves. I welcome any criticisms or suggestions or anything else you all have to level at me, and I'd like to thank anyone who has already read, rated, favorited, commented or followed the story in its first few hours of life.

To those of you who aren't familiar with the Fate franchise, I want to promise you that you won't get lost. Nothing makes me more angry than a crossover that is so insular that only fans of both franchises could possibly enjoy it. You may have noticed in this first chapter that I tried hard to establish important past events and recognizable characters in a way that someone not familiar with ponies should at least be able to follow along, even if they don't get everything. I hope I was successful, and you can expect me to make just as much effort for the other side. You don't need a degree in Grail War-ology to enjoy the stuff that's coming (I hope).

That said, if you've never checked out the Fate franchise, I do recommend it, it's one of my favorites. There's a ton of material out there for it, and its a rich universe. The Fate/Zero anime is a great entry point, or you can just jump in with both feet and get yourself a translation patch for the original Fate/Stay Night visual novel.

Anyway, enough schilling. If I have anything relevant to say about the story or anything else, I guess I'll post it here. This blog feature is neat. Oh, and I added a temporary avatar for myself. In case anyone was curious, its a rough mockup of the pony form of Ruler, aka Arturia, that I did with one of those random pony generators on deviant art. Hopefully it'll helps you visualize her, though the hair isn't quite right. I also did one for the other new character I introduced in chapter 1, Apple Island, so maybe I'll post that at some point.
