Chapter 3 of Everharted is up, and hoping for an answer to a question. · 8:17am Jul 15th, 2013
As you all will notice in the latest chapter there is something of an odd moment in the story. Now here's my question, if a character in a 2nd person story is given a name, even though it's not their actual name and more of a nickname. Does that make it no longer a 2nd person story?
I see an argument for either way with this question.
On the no side; The story should still be able to progress like a normal second person story, but now characters can address you/the main character by a name. It takes away the anon-ness, but it might make it feel like you (as the reader) are roleplaying as the character. This could help readers get more involved into the story and the character you're supposed to be.
The other side though; It takes away the anon-ness. Giving the character a set name or personality might scare readers away, as not as much imaginative freedom is given to the readers. It also kind of defeats the purpose of a second person story, as the character is supposed to be an anon any reader can insert themselves in place of.
Just my two bits, but personally, your idea sounds unique and interesting. I have never heard of anyone doing that in a second perspective story before. I think you should roll with it, as the potential for what you might be able to accomplish with it as far as the benefits go, out-weight the detractions in my mind.
In the end, it's your story. Do as you wish and as you see fit.

Thank you for your lovely bit of input mate. Gotta say I had considered the lack of Anon-ness to be a factor, but then when I remembered that you're basically playing a character from a video game as you read. (A.K.A. Spirit) That certain things are going to unfold the same way regardless.
My main point is, that while the soul inside the Vessel can always be different the path it takes will be the same. (As this is technically a crossover with the game malicious by the vessel.)
1215653 No problem. Your point is also rather valid as well. I can't believe I didn't think of that. Anyway, the best of luck to you!

Thank you friend reader. Are there any stories you've written you might want me to take a peek at? I enjoy reading others work as it tends to inspire my own.
1215688 Works that I've published on this site, or are you referring more to proofreading works I've yet to publish?
1215694
Mostly the former.
1215698 Well, I have a sad one-shot that I want to post, but I'd really like for someone to proofread it first. That is, if you'd be interested in it.

Well, while sad isn't really my thing I believe I'll give it a shot. Though to make it fair how would you like to proofread Chapter 4 when I've gotten it ready for publishing?
1215750 That sounds great. It would be an honor to proofread for you.
I'll send you the link to the gdoc of my one-shot in a pm.
