What is this blasphemy? · 6:15pm Jul 12th, 2013

That's right! I'm doing something new today seeing as it's been a while since I've written a blog. For a while I've been reading a lot of fanfiction of other animes/books/shows/ect. and want to give you guys some recommendations. Just in case you wanted to read a few good stories that doesn't have anything to do with pastel-colored ponies. Because, let's be honest here, who really wants to read those?...

...I'll just get on with it.

Little music for the reading.

#1: True Warriors Never Die
Crossover: Naruto/Bleach
Author: Kenchi618
Status: 31 chapters. Ongoing.
Words: 355,419
Plot: Naruto is the next Rikudou Sennin (Sage of the Six Paths) and has wandered the world for thousands of years. Arriving in Karakura Town, he finds himself face to mask with hollows and being the generally nice guy with a hero-complex he is, he decides to join in on the fight between hollows and these kimono-clad people wielding huge swords and whatnot. Ends up getting drafted by Yoruichi Shihouin for the rescue of Rukia Kuchiki. So what's a traveling sage and the author of 'Icha Icha' supposed to do in Seireitei?

As he stood on a high wall overlooking the area, a lone tear came to the eye of one of Naruto's Kage Bunshin as he stared up at a perfectly pristine white building with only the division insignia on any wall whatsoever, "It's so beautiful… It's absolutely perfect. It's so perfect-." The several clones alongside him all unsealed buckets of paint and brushes, "-And we are going to absolutely fuck this place up."

Why you should read it: Contrary to most other 'overpowered Naruto'-fanfiction, this is a welcome change. Naruto's character in this is that of a semi-sarcastic, good-guy, pseudo-immortal man with more snark in him than most of the comment-section on this side, combined. Not to mention the absolutely amazingly written handling of original vs. canon plotlines, with only a few characters from the Naruverse, as opposed to other stories that simply throw tons of characters in there with little to no reason. The ratio of humor vs. seriousness is also handled wonderfully with the occasional joke that will make you laugh.

And hey, where else can you see Hidan as an Arrancar telling Orihime that her death to Jashin will be quick and painless, with Orihime taking that as a compliment? And Naruto preaching the wonders of the log used in Substitution Jutsu? And showing those youngling-shinobi in Squad 2 how it's done?

#2: Stormbringer
Crossover: Fairy Tail/One Piece
Author: Icy Cake
Status: 14 chapters. Ongoing.
Words: 95,500
Plot: Natsu and co. is sent to take care of a band of pirates 'terrorizing' a village. Little did they know that these particular pirates was nowhere near what they expected. Rubber limbs, long noses, talking raccoons oh my. Now trying to find a way for these so called 'Strawhats', the pirates and Team Natsu finds themselves in a diabolic plot (uuhu, scary) concerning an ancient demon of the black mage Zeref and an island shown on no map.
Why you should read it: Natsu turns into a mother-fucking DRAGON! Not to mention that Icy's capture of everyone's personalities are absolutely spot-on, making for a wonderfully paced story with amazing interactions between characters. Most noticeably is the fact that the author lets the reader think for himself and come to his/hers own conclusion using subtle, but easily understood hints and expressions. You can easily understand what is going on without being told, and that's an amazing feeling. Not to mention that the story is gritty. You can feel the grit in this. Gray's demonic magic feels cold and jagged and Natsu's flames actually comes across as harming and blazing. It is gritty without being gory, which is in itself an amazing feat, and makes for wonderful entertainment.

Sanji wears the Flame Empress's armor at one point. If nothing else, the story is worth as read simply because of that.

#3: Dragonslayer
Crossover: Naruto/Fairy Tail
Author: KitsuneDragon
Status: 25 chapter. Ongoing.
Words: 377,901
Plot: Naruto is found as a baby by the black dragon Acnologia and raised as his dragonslayer. With his Exceed partner, Kurama, he takes on the world as the S-class villain Ogonno Fuujin, 'the Golden Wind God'-*grabs hold of blog-reader's shoulder and drags him/her back*-with a single purpose in mind: Create an army and take down the Dragon King.
Why you should read it: Yes, I know that it sounds horribly cliche and has been done quite a few times before, but for once it's done right. Naruto is a bastard with little human emotion, but that's why it works. Rarely do I find OP characters be all that swell, but here, as a bad guy, Naruto simply works. He's gleeful, cold, calculating and ever so slightly playful. He also has to deal with a split personality between his draconian nature vs. his humane emotions towards people, creating a physiological struggle that is very enjoyable to read. If you like these kinds of stories, even a little bit, then go and give this one a go.

That's it for this time folks. If you enjoyed this, tell me and I might do another of these blogs some day. Lord knows I've got plenty of stories to chose from.

Too bad I don't watch/read any of those anime/manga, so I won't really know any of the material. But yeah, kinda the same like you, been reading some (not a lot) of fanfics of other stuff lately. Sadly, it's stuff that is either really well written but is only two chapters in and hasn't been updated for over a year, or is 'meh' in terms of being written, so yeah...

1206779 As always the story gets better when you know the anime itself, but all of them should be manageable even without having watched the shows.

Couldn't get into Fairy Tail, if it's the one I'm thinking of. Too boring. (First episode was a bluehaired girl sitting in class as they talked about food or something for FOREVER. NOTHING HAPPENED. Most boring episode of any anime I've ever seen.)

1206883 Second link not working, brah.

But... Yeah, okay, wrong Anime...

...

WOOHOO! New anime to Watch! 8D

1207048 I have a feeling you're gonna like it. It is certainly one of my favorites.

A straight-out Naruto fanfiction, I will read. But Crossovers? No thanks. Good to know there are good ones out there though.

1207426 If so, here's a few good straight Naruto fanfics:
It's For a Good Cause, I Swear!
(Funniest time-travel fic ever made. Sort of a parody of the usual time-travel stories.)
The Sealed Kunai
(Naruto is a bit more awesome.)
The Lives Worth Saving
(A bit more serious attempt at a time-travel fic, but still very much worth your time.)
Chunin Exam Day
(Think 'Groundhog Day' in the Chuunin Exam. Be prepared for some serious bashing on a few characters, but lots of fun.)

Hope you'll find something you like. :pinkiehappy:
