For a fandom that is so heavily trolled as the bronies are, I find it ironic that the fandom's favorite character is a troll. I of course, am speaking about Discord. I read some things that the fandom has produced, and I did not like it at all. It indoctrinated me into anger towards the character and I hadn't even watched those episodes yet. That is, because to me, in fiction, I much prefer happy endings, even if they are cliche and sometimes due to a deus ex machina.
When you create a fic specifically to "denounce" the happy ending we got at the end of his debut episodes, I have no choice but to label you a fanboy of that character. I really didn't want to say anything, but I just can't hold it in anymore. I have to be heard. When you make said fic a "comedy"...it drives me nuts because the "dark" tag wasn't used afterwards. And when you make a fic where Discord proves he doesn't deserve freedom by making the Mane 6 murder Pokemon until they either die or submit to the fact that "they shouldn't have imprisoned him", that makes you a fanboy too. It sours even the happy ending that would come of such a fic.
Mind you, I see both happy endings being hollow if they still end with good winning.
I watched Discord's episodes recently with all this on my mind, and...I couldn't hold back my anger. Nothing about any of those episodes was funny at all to me. I couldn't even laugh when he got frustrated at being unable to corrupt Fluttershy becuase nothing about him was funny. I couldn't find him funny. There was not a single part of me that found him amusing. All he gets is "he's a good villain". Anything else, no. He shouldn't have been reformed either. He was introduced as the former tyrant of Equestria. Why do people think then, that Celestia herself is another tyrant? I find the fandom backwards for that.
Even if I hadn't went into Discord's episodes biased, I still couldn't like him. Again, I didn't find "Tom" funny, I didn't find "Flutterbitch" funny, and I certainly didn't find any of his other antics funny. I certainly didn't find his obnoxious gloating funny either. He's absolutely intolerable in my eyes. You guys got your extra Discord through his reformation. I don't want to hear about how he needs more episodes because frankly, that's what this site is for. You can make up your own Discord arc, and he can win in it too!
I can't say to stop writing fanfics because there are some people that would prefer I stopped writing mine because they were in a genre that they think should die off. However, I really had to vent about this issue because I was about to snap and do something worse than write a tl;dr blog entry like this one about why I can't like Discord nor will I ever like him. I just hope this bias of mine doesn't pervade into Harmony and Courage when I finally write that arc...
Honestly, I liked Discord. He was an interesting villain, was having fun rather than just torturing ponies, and as he said(? It might've been in a fanfic...) "I'm not the one who turns ponies into stone." Honestly, Celestia can be fairly evil, even when trying to be "good." Discord seemed more Chaotic Neutral than Chaotic Evil, in the long run.
Here's something. Discord said he was sorry in his reformation episode. Celestia has never, ever, not even once apologized to anypony in the show. Not Luna, when she was freed from the moon, not Twilight, when none of them believed her with Chrysalis, not even once (In fact, nopony apologized to Twilight about Chrysalis). I agree, Discord fics can be annoying to read at times. But there are fics where he and the Mane 6 can duke it out until Discord gets bored and decides "Eh, what the hay." and starts hanging out with the crazy group of six. I like fics where Discord is a trickster, not a demon, because that's all he was in the show. He's basically Loki, except he hasn't tried to kill anyone. At least, not on screen.

"Having fun rather than torturing ponies"...uh, pretty sure what he did in Season 2's opening episodes counts as psychological torture. And the fact he had fun with it only makes it worse. And...Discord got what was coming to him when he was turned to stone. Are YOU gonna hash it out with a dictator using his powers to make everypony miserable? I doubt the stained glass was created by "Propaganda Incoroprated" like everyone thinks.
Discord said he was sorry for centuries of (thinking about) evil, and of course his performance in the Season 2 opener...Yeah, get back to me when he lives up to that apology, since most of his reformation episode was spent trying to turn the Mane 6 on one another once again. Kid's shows have limited times; you really think they'll show everything? (Inb4 "that's what fanfics are for") And again, Discord's whole reformation was basically kid's show material.
And Celestia not apologizing...while I can agree with the Twilight thing...Luna had been possessed by an ancient evil. What are you going to do when your sibling does something that might cause genocide unintentionally? Just sit and talk?
Celestia is more evil because she doesn't apologize for an action that she should have; and more important, one for an event that she shouldn't have (Again, Nightmare Moon)? Sure. Sure. Get back to me if she goes Solar Flare in the canon and then we'll talk about evil Celestia like it actually exists. Until then, I'm going to consider "Tyrant Celestia" spewers as propagandists who think Discord was a swell ruler playing with ponies like action figures.
1422299 I never said Celestia was evil, I just said that she has never once apologized for anything, not for doubting her student, or for neglecting her sister when she was turning evil. Because that about don't happen over night.
As for Discord being evil... eh, once again, twisted pranks aside, he didn't do that much that was evil. Yes, he made the mane six become opposite to themselves, but they were also the one thing that could potentially harm him, or seal him back in stone. If you were feed from a stony prison, but weren't the type to actually kill, then wouldn't you make sure whatever could defeat you was out of the way? Yes, changing their fundamental beings was fairly evil, but honestly, it's a very mild evil compared to what his powers can potentially do.
Discord didn't necessarily want to kill anyone so much as just do whatever he wanted. Death is boring, after all.

Gee, so going by that logic, all bad guys have to do is make a written statement apologizing for actions we would normally deem inexcusable, unforgivable, or atrocious in nature, and then everything's fine and dandy? Wow. Oh, and about Princess Celestia not ever apologizing, Princess Celestia is a flawed character, yes, but that doesn't mean she doesn't regret her errors in judgment and the mistakes she's made. The fact that she's deemed an evil tyrant by the fanbase after about 1000 years of keeping the peace even without her sister (who she had to banish to the moon because Faust knows what she could have done had she been left to do what she would unrestrained.) just annoys me.
But seriously, fanbases can often bring out the worst in a series, especially some of our most beloved ones. After Cupcakes, did you really expect that the fanbase wouldn't go worshiping Discord after seeing what he could do to the Mane 6? I also understand that people call Celestia a tyrant is complete and utter bull. If she's such a tyrant, then Equestria is perhaps one of the happiest places to be run by a tyrannical dictator. And her not apologizing for her mistakes automatically makes her more evil than Discord? WTF?
