Day 1 · 5:06am Jun 13th, 2013
I am typing this blog post from St. Benedict's college in Minneapolis, Minnesota; a city that I am most definitely not accustomed to.
It is 11:47 pm. My body is telling me that it is 9:47 pm. Nowhere near the time that I normally go to sleep. And so, here I am, typing away after a simultaneously eventful and extraordinarily boring day.
I'm going to blog about it.
I woke up at 2:30 am, LA time. Well, 'woke up' is a bit of an exaggeration. My alarm went off at 2:30. I stayed in bed and contemplated the reasons I had for getting up so early in the morning. I actually got out of bed at 3:00 am and groggily made my way to the bathroom. I have previously stated that mornings are Discord's agents of chaos and I firmly stand by that belief.
I finished my morning routine at about 3:30, making my way to the living room to find that I had not finished packing. I ran around, frantically throwing random shirts and sweaters and pants into my suitcase. I also noticed a disturbing lack of pony related clothing. Sure, I have my Octavia necklace, my Doctor Whooves necklace, a smattering of posters and my 8-bit filly versions of Derpy and the Doctor (I'll try to put up pics of theses things in the near future) but I am severely lacking in the pony-shirt department. But I digress.
The point is that I got into LAX with a hastily packed suitcase and a dead laptop. Screening took two hours (one notable part was one I offered a TSA agent a 'piece of gum' and he thought I said 'piece or gun.' I am SOOOOOO happy that I was able to clear that up.) and I was on a four hour flight to Midway airport in Chicago (you'll note that I am not currently in Chicago or even Illinois.) I played Sudoku and did crosswords on the flight (I would've worked on Syncopation but my laptop was dead. Also, I swear that I'm 16 and not a senior citizen... Crosswords and Sudoku are fun...).
Touch down in Midway. Begin the ten-hour bus ride to Minneapolis. Yes, 10 hours with about 1 and a half hours of breaks total. After the flight. As I've said multiple times in the day, 'I can't feel my butt bone.' (See, 16.)
And now I'm here, in a very apartment-like dormitory typing away at my worn down laptop. My bent USB, which should by all logical reasoning not be functional, is sitting right next to me. It holds the main copy of Syncopation and it is never far from my side. I will be working on it on the bus as my butt bone grows numb from trying to be comfortable in a decidedly uncomfortable.
But it's worth it, because I'm having such a great time while writing.
P.S. Preto, if you're reading this, how the hell do you survive? I've been killing mosquitoes all day and the weather has a freaking mind of it's own! It's like the difference between Ponyville and the Everfree Forest! And everything's green! WHY IS EVERYTHING SO GREEN?!
Didn't get ~25% of what you were saying, but I hope you'll get used to living in wherever you're living.

'MURICA!
...
Okay, now that that's out of the way I'll sum it up in tl;dr words. I'm touring through like five states and visiting different colleges. My first day involved 14 hours of travel... Which sucked.
BUT! I did get s'mores, so that pretty much makes up for it.
(Also, I should have plenty of time to work on Syncopation)

Why would you visit different colleges?.. I mean, is it a scientific interest or you're just touring?
But I like Minneapolis! I'm going to Minneapolis!
Also, I didn't think mosquitoes were particularly bad. New Orleans, on the other hand, has millions of them. I swear to god the mosquitoes outnumber the humans roughly 10 to 1.
Additionally, i remember having the same reaction when I went to California a few months ago.

Granted, that was in the middle of winter, so everything was white, so of course California was really green by comparison.

I thought the implication was that Terra was touring colleges to decide where to go, not to that he was already in college and touring other universities. That'd make more sense given his age of 16 anyway. Unless California has two fewer years of high school than Wisconsin does.

Yeah, makes sense. Just, I never thought that one would choose a university at the age of 16. I mean, I already knew what university I would be studying at at what, middle school? Also, stuff like 'your father went to Oxbridge, you'll go to Oxbridge' usually helps.

Might be a cultural difference then.
I didn't actually tour any universities until I was 17, and given my other classmates, it isn't that uncommon this side of the ocean.
Generally, many people I know had decided what they want to study around 15 or 16, but that may be a tad more unusual.

I didn't tour any universities at all. I decided for myself, "It will be this one", (along with my mother and uncle), and just enrolled there.
Might be a tad different in the US of A or whatever. ^_^

Aye. I'm a junior in high school about to enter senior year and I'm just going around to see what captures my interest.
I've had my heart set on heading into MIT, but I figured that it'd be good to get out and see what's around. Plus, I get to tour through six or seven universities without having to pay anything!
... Sooooo, yeah!
1142598
A win-win.

Sounds like a grand old time!
I looked around at universities based on their programs first, but out of a weird coincidence, all the colleges I was interested were basically directly north or south of me, and withing a day's drive.
Man though, It's kinda weird to think that I'm a year above you. I totally thought you were in college, and that I was DMing for a bunch of people years older than me.
Still, good luck finding a university that you like.
If you're in the twin-cities area, I'll totally hang out with you. (no preassure to do so though. Picking a school because it's in the same city as some guy you met is probably not particularly solid reasoning.)
