Writing Difficulties · 10:19pm Jun 7th, 2013
"Cupcakes Redux" was originally a quick, silly thing to get out a random idea bouncing around in my head ... but now, it's become the most popular thing I've ever posted. Like, ever. So now, when I go to write more of it, the idea of lots and lots of people anticipating and reading it causes me to lock up and draw a blank.
Does anyone have any advice that could help me get it back up and running?
I'm guessing this won't help much, but ya never know.
I'd say just keep doing exactly what you've been doing for the first 4 chapters. If being judged or criticized is what you're afraid of, I can pretty well assure you that whatever you put out, we'll all just eat it up (heh). But, seriously, your writing is great. I can definitely understand why you're blanking out, and it's a little disappointing to hear, but everything so far is fantastic and just so fun to read.
When I write, I usually listen to music. Or sometimes, I just lock myself in a quiet room with a fan going. Drains out distractions...
Not entirely sure about advice, having near no writing experience, but I can offer encouragement.
The way I'm seeing it, is that people have positively loved the last four, and if you keep on doing what you're doing, people will continue to do just that. People aren't going to criticize it harshly, everyone who's taken time to comment has given nothing but positive feedback and an occasional suggestion. I think if you just do what you've been doing, and take into account an occasional suggestion, like deciding to include Spitfire on popular demand (thank you!), then people will love it. I know I won't be disappointed, and I think others feel the same.
I really do hope this helps. I've had trouble with writing creatively before, and I know it's not at all easy. But you're good at it, I don't think you have too much to worry about.
