    Shipping Goggles

So a while back, I asked my good friend Evehly if she could draw a picture of Solaris and Honeycomb. She agreed and I said she can draw whatever she wants. Since she loves shipping things, she made this.

    Still around

    Hey,

Don't know how many people care, but I am still around. It has been hectic with work, but I am trying to get back into things. I may have a short break coming up, and I do feel the itch to write again.

Just letting you know that I am still here.

On why I used Solaris instead of Celestia. · 8:54am May 30th, 2013

Hey there,

The reason why I am writing this blog is so that I can share my thoughts and views on why I used Solaris instead of Celestia. Or in short, why I used what is seemingly a male version of Celestia. I know that this potentially can be a hard thing to take, I mean it was for me when I started it. The most common thing I have heard so far is why I would do such a drastic change. Even when I started brainstorming and talking about what my overall plan was for this story to other people, I was asked why a new character was necessary. So this got me thinking, why did I think of Solaris? What was the underlying reason for it. I felt compelled to answer this, not only to other people but to myself. In short, I do not think this story would work if I used a canon Celestia.

When I think of a character, such as Celestia, I think of all of her traits and personality that are associated with her. One of the things I learned as I work on my other story, Enter Nurse Luna, is that how hard it is for me to write Celestia or any other canon character (and comedy) acting a different way than I normally perceive her as. For me, it is not easy. It feels like I am writing a different character that is not Celestia.

So back to this story. If I were to leave Celestia as normal, it would be hard for me write her as Celestia with some of the things I have planned out. It wouldn't feel like Celestia. Not only that, I would have to think "How would Celestia act in this scene?" or "Is Celestia acting out of character?". So rather than trying to figure out how would Celestia behaves in certain scenarios while also directing the story where I want it to go, I thought it would be better just to make a new character. But, I also wanted some familiarity of Celestia, such as her title, position, parts of her history, and some of her personality. So I guess one way I thought that would let my do what I want was to make a different version of Celestia. But instead of making different version of Celestia, why not make a brand new character that can fit the role much better?

That way, I can construct a new character who is in Celestia position, who share some similar traits, but different enough where I can have more control over the story itself. I feel it gives me more freedom because I don't have to worry about "Is Celestia acting like Celestia?" Well I am not using Celestia, I am using Solaris, a new character that I can expand on. I am not limited where the story can go because I don't have to worry about Celestia how would really act in that situation.

So I guess what I am trying to say is that Solaris is a different character than Celestia, not just some "male" version of her. I did because I do not think the story would work or be believable if I used canon Celestia.

That, and I wanted to try something different. It would allow me to mold the world in a different way.

I am not sure if my reasoning is correct in this case, but I thought it would help if I just put it out there first.

Well I hope this helps to explain some of my rationale on why I did the things I did. I just wanted to put my opinion out there. And on a bonus, Conicer has decided to help me by drawing my very own cover art for the story. I squee'd. I mean he has done a lot of art work for a lot of stories, so I was thrilled that he helped me.

Thanks,
Foxy Kimchi

Infinite choices exist, where divergent paths converge. Yet core choices by those interwoven into the grand skein of the three weavers may bind the tapestry of fate. Scatter it to the winds, or perhaps weave a masterpiece, all the many dance upon that tangled web, patterned spiders that only glimpse the master plan. But ultimately, without each, such a tapestry of fate is flawed, blemished. And all the worse for wear to view.

Dance well weaver, many eyes are upon you. Yet not to fail, but to watch the nature of the grand scheme to shine in the highest noon, and darkest dreams.

I haven't used a character more than once as of yet, so I can't share my experience. :applecry:
I imagine I would just keep in mind their character for that story only, but I don't know if it will go over that smoothly.

I understand your reasons, though.

Dafuq did I just read :pinkiecrazy:

And an excellent answer to that question you have chosen my good sir!

Are you sure you didn't just want to ship R63 Celestia with a female changeling? :rainbowkiss:

Just started reading the story and felt like commenting on this. I'd prefer a whole new character over an established character that the author can't, or doesn't feel able to, get right.

2172262 Go for it hehe! Any day I manage a point of inspiration to another is a great day.

Seems legit, and I now proceed to the second chapter of the story and hope for an absence of Solaris shipping.
