The opening perhaps isn't a good indicator for how great this show is, but giving what show we're all fans of here we should know all about that. So let me just say this, THIS SHOW IS AMAZING!!!!!

So not too long ago I watched this anime called Say "I love you"

The opening perhaps isn't a good indicator for how great this show is, but giving what show we're all fans of here we should know all about that. So let me just say this, THIS SHOW IS AMAZING!!!!!

I'll let you know that this is a high school romance drama and if that isn't your thing I completely understand, I'm not fond of them either, but you need to watch this anyway.

The story is about Mei Tachibana, a girl who has no friends nor any desire to have any after an incident from her childhood. Now as a high school student she is quiet and cynical. One day Yamato Kurosawa, the most popular guy in school, takes a liking to her for reasons I dare not spoil for you and tries to befriend her. Naturally she refuses his attempts at becoming friends with her as from her experience friends are just people who use you until you're not needed anymore. However she finds herself in a dangerous situation one night and out of desperation calls him for help. He of course shows up and saves her and from there they begin to from a relationship.

This isn't one of those romance shows that dicks you around with the will they or will they not get together even though they're obviously going to game. They're a couple by the end of episode two. The show is really about Mei learning to be able to trust other people enough to allow herself to have a relationship with him and well as with the other characters of the show. Also Mei isn't a two-dimensional shallow character with shallow problem. She isn't one of those poor, misunderstood souls who just wants to be loved. She is bitter and mistrusting of other people at first as someone who's been alienated like that would be in real life. You can see clearly that she's been hurt badly by the cruelty of others. Anyone who has ever felt alienated by society will immediately identify with her. She's understandably cautious about opening herself to Yamato and his friends but this shouldn't be mistaken for cowardice or, God forbid, Moe shyness. Once she sees that Yamato is sincere in his affections she pursues the relationship just a fiercely as he does. When she sees that there is a real possibility to not be alone anymore she makes the effort to make friends and to making the relationship between her and Yamato work which makes her an incredibly brave character.

Also Yamato isn't the knight in shining armor who swoops in and fixes all her problems cause he's just perfect like that. He's a human being, he does stupid stuff, he makes mistakes. The relationship is a learning experience for him as well. He is an extremely nice and friendly guy, in fact he's probably too nice but that's another matter. The point is he's a likable character and their relationship is the most important thing for him, he is very much dedicated to being a good boyfriend for Mei.

All and all the show is enjoyable because the conflicts are not too far fetched, they seem like real conflicts. Sure some of these are conflicts which under normal circumstances might make you want to slap one or both of them over the head, but considering Mei's trust issues you completely understand why she feels the way she feels in these predicaments (she never becomes the jealous bitch type if you're worried about that).

There isn't really anything I can say about this show that could do it justice so you just have to watch it. It only came out this past October so it hasn't been released in the US yet, but it is available for streaming at Crunchyroll so go watch it......stop reading and go watch it, DO IT NAOW!!!!!!!!
