Equestria Girls (And Apparently How I Became a Brony...)

So as I'm sure you all know, "Equestria Girls," Hasbro's movie spinoff of MLP:FIM, if being released on June 16th. There are clearly lots of various opinions on this, but I wanted to say what I think and hopefully give some advice to anyone who is against it.

    Fo:E Tempest News

Alright, so I've not had as much time to work on Tempest as I'd like, but with the semester over, I'll have a lot more chance to write. As soon as I get back from Quebec, Canada on Tuesday and finish all my school projects, I'm working just about full time on the story.

So as I'm sure you all know, "Equestria Girls," Hasbro's movie spinoff of MLP:FIM, if being released on June 16th. There are clearly lots of various opinions on this, but I wanted to say what I think and hopefully give some advice to anyone who is against it.

Point 1. This is being made by Hasbro and DHX. They managed to pull off the Twilicorn thing, one of the biggest controversies maybe next to the Derpy incident, a lot more smoothly than most people were imagining they would be able to. They kind of know what they're doing.

Point 2. It's just a movie; It's not permanent. You don't have to watch it. There's not even any indication on whether or not this will affect the series itself. We already know there's going to be a Season Four, so this isn't the end of the show. Far from it. We're getting another twenty-six (26!!!) episodes.

Point 3. You gave a show about pastel colored, mostly female ponies who learn about the "magic of friendship" a chance in the first place. How is this any different? Because you already have an attachment to them as ponies? Because all that's given is that the Mane 6 go to a human high school, Twilight meets some guy she probably instantly fell for (both literally and metaphorically  ), there's some girl who's suspicious of Twilight, Twilight meets the rest of the group? It seems like a typical teenage chick flick. But honestly, you probably went into the show knowing FULL WELL it was meant for little girls.

>>>>>Warning, short rant on how I became a Brony. Feel free to skip ahead to get to the short conclusion.<<<<<

About a year ago, I saw someone post a comment on a Youtube video about "The Rainbow Factory." Out of curiosity, I checked it out, no idea that ponies even existed. I read the fan-fiction, disregarding the fact that they were ponies and, I'll be honest, was wondering more about how this "Aurora Dawn" came up with names like "Scootaloo" and "Rainbow Dash." I read the story, and thought What kind of madness would inspire this? Then I watched the show, again not caring about the "pony" thing, I didn't like it, I walked away. About a month later, I heard about Cupcakes. I read it, figured I was missing something in the show, and went back to watch the show. About five episodes in, I was thinking less This is a frilly little girls show, I don't really care for it and more of It's not as dark as I was hoping, but not as childish as I thought. I actually like this quite a bit. In case you haven't guessed, I'm A. just a bit of a dark person. and B. a very liberal person. I didn't even take into consideration the notion of "Pastel Colored Ponies." Just what I was being shown of all other aspects.

The point is, you can't judge a book by a cover. Not even after you've read the back and read the first few pages. Whatever your opinion of it is now, you have to realize that after watching the show, even if you were skeptical or against it, it actually ended up being really good. (If you didn't find it good, then I applaud you for somehow finding your way to this blog. That takes talent.) You have to look at Equestria Girls the same way. Even if it might look bad, you'll never know until you actually watch it.

To express my personal opinion, let me explain a little rule I have for movies or shows. I either classify them as 1. "That looks awesome. I want to see it." 2. "That's going to suck. Count me out." Or 3, "Eh, looks alright. I'll wait until it comes out on Netflix or DVD." With Equestria Girls, I'll have to go with number three. I'll give it a chance, but I'm not exceptionally ecstatic for it. I wouldn't go see it in theater.

If you're not quite looking forward to it, that's fine. You don't have to watch it. It's just a movie. A one-time thing. There'll be talk about it here and there after it's released and everyone else has seen it, but it'll be out of the way. But still, remember those three points, and remind yourself not to judge a book by it's cover.
Thanks for reading.
