On the topic of procedural release · 4:18am Apr 19th, 2013
Hey, fillies and colts. Today I want to talk about a fancy topic called procedural release.
Now, you may not know a lot about me, but in case you didn't know, I do most of my writing on /mlp/. All of the current stories on my radar are geared specifically for the audience of a few different recurring threads, and there's probably a lot of it that won't get posted here. But there is one major difference between when I post here, and when I post on 4chan.
On 4chan, I post in updates. I write 4-6k words at a time, and then I dump them in 4-6k word updates. This is how My Little Human was written, as well as a few other things on my Pastebin. Of course, you probably noticed that My Little Human was not divided into 4-6k word chunks here on FiMFic. This is because I only post finished works on FiMFic, things I am at least partially proud of and capable of saying that they are done to the best of my abilities.
Until now.
Pretty soon here, I don't know when, the prologue for my next fic should pass through moderation (assuming they find nothing wrong with it). The story, as it stands, is not finished. In fact, it's barely started. The two-thousand word chunk that is coming here is a prologue only. It exists to introduce the protagonists of the story and the plot it will follow, and nothing more. I wouldn't have posted it here at all, but due to numerous requests to post more of my work, I figured I might as well.
So what I have to ask is this: which method do you prefer? Would you rather I keep doing what I'm doing, update procedural-like on /mlp/ and then dump finished projects here? Or would you prefer I post it as-it-comes straight to FiMFiction as well?
I like having a stream of content distributed over time more than sporadic bursts of it.
Well, I don't truly have a preference here. From purely egoistic viewpoint it is easier for me to read something under ~10-15k words total in one go, and anything bigger - gradually in chuncks of 5-10k words at a time.
Now, the only more or less significant difference in my opinion - higher probability of feedback here if you post it as you post on /mlp/ if you care about that. Otherwise you are free to write and/or post here in the way you prefer more. I doubt that there will be a lot of people complaining in any case.
Post as you go. I don't want to wait, and sometimes, it's easier to read a story in prose than it is in greentext.

I don't write in greentext, even on /mlp/. Usually. The only exception was my Changelings CYOA.

Well then, I'll just stfu now.
pfffft whatever man. I prefer reading complete fics but it's whatever floats your boat, man.
