OPAC: Cadence's Redemption? · 3:30am Apr 13th, 2013
So, we are now twenty chapters in to Of Princesses and Changelings, that's a fair amount if I do say so myself.
Anyway, a question suddenly sprang to my mind. So I ask you dear readers, currently, do you think Cadence deserves redemption/forgiveness/reconciliation?
Given her current actions, I just wanted to see where most of you stood: Redemption or Destruction? I do intend to ask you this again towards the end of the story, but let's see where we stand right now.
That said, what do you think?
I vote redemption because if Cadence goes down the road of destruction I wouldn't to see the results we must spread zee love and ZEE MAGIKS
I'm normally a very forgiving person who tries to understand the other side of the conflict as best as I can, but for Cadance... I'm finding it really hard to see how she can be redeemed (as things are). I loved the little moment where Shape Shift asked AND WHAT ABOUT ME? ... but is that enough? I'm erring on the side of "no", yet it also makes me hope something more will come up to switch this around.
By destruction you mean killing her? Or what.
It has so far seemed that although she herself originally had some Hate towards them dark magic seemed to leech onto this and make it worse. It could have also been the fact that hate is so out of her element as the princess of love that is got so bad.
But yeah I expect a thourough flank-chewing for her from EVERYONE. But I do think that it is at least partially not her fault so she should get some forgivness.
I vote yes for redemption/forgiveness/reconciliation in short.
Cadence's head rolls off the chopping block
She let hate consume her she should be killed before she gets a mob of supporters and destroy the hive.
I would have to vote for redemption, if only because it is more in keeping with the general tone of the story.
But... if Lightning Dust gets screwed over, then I vote death.
It seems to me that destruction isn't normally the way of Equestria. Even Discord got a chance at reformation. Luna was cleansed of her corruption by the EoH. Chrysalis got her redemption in this fic. Only Sombra, so far, was outright destroyed.

And he came back anyways.
I vote that she should live! As an evil villain.
I say redemption but not amnesty.
I vote for forgiveness, as long as she adheres to Gibbs Rule #45.
She's clearly under the influence of dark magic. Still, she had to have SOMETHING to have that magic latch on. I say she needs therapy and that she needs to do something to make up economically for her actions as well as apologize to the changelings...
...but yeah, given that this is quite completely out of character for her, forgiveness.
This is the exact same question Celestia had to face regarding Luna about a thousand years prior. We all know how that one turned out.
Although I say forgiveness, I do feel she shouldn't get off scott-free. There would likely have to be consequences for her actions. Being forced to abdicate her throne (at least temporarily) sounds like a reasonable one. While she's gone, some psychological therapy would likely be a good idea.
Hmm..... This is a tough decision. It really is. there's some interesting plot twists (heh, plot) in either choice, though, going off of what I know of the pony world in general, I don't think Celestia has it in her to truly destroy anypony, let a lone another alicorn, the wife of her former Guard Captain, and one of Twilight's close friends. The backlash from that would be devastating for her.
No, what I feel should happen is redemption, but not amnesty. Have Cadence see what she's doing is wrong (and also get her mercs thrown in jail for conspiracy against the crown) and then have her serve out some sort of punishment. the severity of which, I'll leave up to you, cause I don't have any ideas for it.
make her a sex mongering whore. have her proud will crumbled under the furious might of the collective as consolation for attempting to slay one of their queens. if redemption then I do not mind reconciliation should not be any further than minor friend zoning.
make her go off the deep end and make a sequel were her friends try to cure her
Let her live, but make her beg and work for it like mad, strip her of all her privileges and magic. Let her buck apples for living and how she likes those apples.
So I guess thats redemption ?
Redemption. Even though she's gone a bit overboard (and become obsessed) with trying to break Celestia and Chrysalis' relationship, it's not like her attempts haven't backfired nearly every time, other than the kidnapping, which is still in progress.

I admit, i had to look that one up again. Good choice.
Give her a funny punishment
then redeem her
1007475 Thanks.
Amnesty suggests that she gets a clean slate.
I vote redemption, but she needs some form of punishment for what she's done.
One word. Therapy. And maybe have Shining put her under house arrest or something. She hasn't killed or seriously injured anybody, so she hasn't quite screwed up too bad. I guess that's redemption.
I vote redemption sure she's been doing some awful things but its only because she thinks she's doing the right thing so we must save her before her illness becomes worst
I'd vote redemption. She's coming from a really scary and dark place. I think she has it in her to recognize she was wrong and to make amends.
Wouldn't it be a bit unfair that you give redemption to Chrysalis, but not to Cadance? Just saying.
But, Since you did punish Chrysalis when her changelings abandoned her, I guess punishment for Cadance would make sense. Make it funny.
Destruction might be interesting, But since I know this story will go the predictable route of trying to save her because heavens no we can't expect any actual twists I say redemption, but not forgiveness.
Not immediately anyway as she's been manipulating other ponies and beings for her vengeance. She's lied to everyone and from behind a false mask of sincerity, has caused a great deal of pain and suffering, trying her best to cause hate and ultimately has become the very opposite of what she's supposed to be. Hell she's been talking about offing the mercenaries that have helped her. Quite frankly, I'd be happy to see her lose her cutie mark or her station as princess as she's abused her power in her quest for hatred.
Whatever you do, don't deus ex machina her to redemption nor make her corruption the fault of something like a demon as that would be an asspull and pretty much negate any and all character development we see from her.
Also Shape Shift needs to be decked for taking his orders to this extreme.
However you handle it, Cadance needs much more than a slap on the wrist. A couple right hooks, a lecture and then a strict punishment are better fitting.
