Sweetie Belle Fic Review 3 (Everyday) · 3:14am Apr 5th, 2013
Alright, so I do keep an eye on SB fics as they come out. And in the last little while I ended up reading this fic: Everyday by: TwizzleDragon
This is not going to be your usual read. It's a sad story and dark. Bittersweet too (I love my bittersweet). It's repetitive for its 1000 words. But it provides a great example of how effective repetition can be.
Really this story appealed more to my poet's tastes than to my author side (even though it's not a poem. It's prose). This story contains the hallmark of a good poem. It captures a single point and carries through. If you want a look at something rough and beautiful, then take five minutes and read this piece.
'Everyday' is not without it's flaws however. You have to give the story a bit of leeway, because this is something that would never, ever, happen canonically, it implies that Rarity is a different character from the one we know through the show. And there are a couple lines where I had to reread because they almost jarred me right out of the story. Almost. Also, the writing is poetic in nature, so if you are easily irritated by poetry, be forewarned.
The story is also left wide open. So, if you are like me and enjoy seeing an open ending which probably won't ever be continued, then this will be a small treat. I enjoyed it, and appreciated the entire idea behind the piece.
Now, back to writing,

Did I not tell you that you needed a break from writing? That includes blogs too, you know.
982266 Heh, writing is not something I'm about to take a break from. It's my goal to eventually become a professional writer. So I take every possible moment to immerse myself in the craft. Though, I do know how to avoid burning myself out. I take short breaks when I need to

You need more than short breaks to be effective. Actually forgetting about a story can reinvigorate your mind, and thus bring new ideas. Fresh perspective can change things for the better, after all!
