Doctor Whooves Stories · 12:22pm Mar 16th, 2012
So, my first blog post. Not really sure why I'm making this, but it seems an easy way to get my thoughts out of my head without writing a story, so that's something. I've never been one for purple prose, so lets just skip ahead to why I made this.
Why the hell is it so hard to find a good Doctor Whooves story? I mean seriously. The Doctor isn't that hard to write, and Derpy is even easier. I find it utterly insane that people screw up this simple formula. Even without this formula, it's still pretty easy to write a story about him.
Like, I went through five pages of Doctor whooves, right? and I kept a tally of all the things I thought would be a good idea to avoid. Here's the results, out of the 16 stories I reviewed, four of them paired the Doctor with their own mary sues, three portrayed the Doctor in a different light to the usual, e.g. as a watch maker, dentist, etc, three had grammar so bad it hurt my eyes, three completely ruined the character of both the Doctor and who ever was unlucky enough to be his companion, and only a mere two captured my attention.
Maybe I'm just complaining, and reading back, that's exactly what I am doing, but seriously? Out of a line-up of 50 stories, only two managed to show any potential, I have a right to complain.
Still, maybe I'm just complaining about nothing, I'm sure there are plenty of good Doctor who stories out there. I just can't find them.
Anyway, that seems to be all. I just needed to get this off my chest.
For the reference, I searched five pages and there's 10 stories a page. 5*10 = 50 stories.
What if it was a fiction in a fan fiction. I mean, Doctor Who is fiction, Obviously, but what if you were able to add on to the plot, spice it up, give it that extra push. I don't think you are being pushy or anything, I'm sure that those two stories were good, unlike mine, but maybe if one were to open up the story a bit more, it could make the Doctor more interesting. What I was trying to do, and I know others were too, was to not completely copy off the writers of the real Doctor, we wanted to make ours distinctive, different in that special way, we want people to be able to say, "hey, lets read the one about the time the doctor traveled back to medieval equestria!" or "Hey, I wanna read the one were he goes deep sea diving," ect. ect. We want them to know what they are reading at a nice pace, but must be able to fit it into an episodic like, or chapter like, story.
Sometimes, we don't get what we exactly wanted, but that happens sometimes, like I remember the time I wrote an old fanfic, got 20,000 views in a few weeks, now, my last newest one has been out for 4 weeks, but it has 90 views. It sucks big time, but then I say "eh, it happenes". Your not whining, your not trying to hurt anyone, but you are giving an honest opinion on why you were not satisfied with it, but others were, just saying. I recognize good criticism, I love that, but maybe if everypony could understand they didn't get what they expected, they can adjust and begin to like it!
Good blog, I enjoyed it:

I know, my fiction was bad. Really, really bad. But I can do better, probably? I dunno, and sorry for the inconvenience. I must really suck at writing if you made a blog post just to express how bad it was.

Dude, I made this post, like, 3 months ago. You had nothing to do with it.
And don't think like that, fiction is only as good as the author thinks it is. The more you want something to be good the more effort goes into it, and the greater it becomes.
Read a couple of books, see what others have done, define your own writing technique, and go give it another shot. Besides, I can hardly call myself perfect. I did once write a story with thirty dislikes.
