His name is Buck and he likes to f... · 10:21am Mar 25th, 2013
WARNING! A rant is approaching and I've been drinking!
Why the does everyone feel the need to censor the word fuck with buck? I see it all the time and I just don't see the point! It's basically gotten to the point where I have to consciously try to ignore it when it comes up.
What? It's annoying.
But really, why would you do that?
Censorship! Can't have fun loving, lighthearted stories being tainted by mean words!
Yes, you do have a point there...
Oh, no wait, that's absolute bullshit. The show has already given you a string of kiddie safe swears to use to your heart's content. What about horseapples, hay and ponyfeathers? That's three right there, yet I see buck used way more then these canon curses do.
But those don't work in some of the ways buck can be used!
Did I mention the plethora of kiddie friendly swears every other bloody children's show uses? I don't think I did.
Or, hey, you could just not have your characters swear.
But I need swearing for character development!
Chances are, if you character needs to swear you're writing a story that isn't targeted at little kiddies. Why don't you just use the actual swears?
Well, I-
But wait, it gets worse! The canon-friendly alternatives are only the first point!
Buck has other meanings. I know, right? Scary shit.
But what are these mystical other definitions you speak of?
Very good question, your writer, very astute!
Let's take a look at what Google has to say:
Noun
The male of some antlered animals, esp. the fallow deer, roe deer, reindeer, and antelopes.
A dollar.
An article placed as a reminder before a player whose turn it is to deal at poker.
Verb
(of a horse) To perform a buck: "he's got to get his head down to buck"; "she bucked them off".
Adjective
Lowest of a particular rank.
And that's not to mention sayings like: 'buck up'.
What does fuck mean? Generally sex or a vulgar exclamation.
Buck's already got a fair few definitions, but you just want to stack more on top of that. Great idea! What could possibly go wrong?
Whatever. I still want to use buck instead of fuck for whatever reason is bouncing around in my empty skull.
I'm not done yet.
I come to my final point: the Apple Family.
Applejack bucks them apple trees all day long.
Sometimes she bucks them with Big Mac.
Heck, sometimes Applebloom comes and bucks 'em, too!
Do you expect me to take a story seriously when Applejack's main duty on the farm is to buck apple trees? Where you're going to give Applebloom a future bucking apple trees?
You did this, you sick bastard. Those tears are on your hands, not mine.

Lol it's because the show likes to "ponify" words. For example everypony.
As macoman said, it's a ponified version of 'fuck' just like 'hay' is of hell. No one actually uses it to censor the word.
I agree entirely 100%. you should drink more often.
Trust me when I say you're not the only one that's annoyed by this. Especially when people use it in real life.
You need to drink more. Screw brain damage and liver faults, WE NEED MORE RANTS.
Meh, frack it.
Carry On
I always do it in German. DER FICK? (The fuck?)
To be honest, I have to completely agree. I don't understand the point of any form of euphemism (unless it's in a kid's show, that's completely understandable).
As you said, people change the word fuck to buck. Why? I dunno, maybe it's because Equestrians absolutely love their uses of silly puns, but I digress. Anyways, there's a lot of that stuff in our human world too. Like hell to heck, damn to darn, or shit to shiz or shoot.
But again, I have to ask, why? Changing a certain sound in a "swear" word does not change its meaning at all. It's essentially making it sound different, but similar enough to transfer the message across in a "non-offensive" way. You're still swearing, but in a way that society deems "okay" rather than "vulgar". I think people that use euphemisms in place of swear words are practically being hypocritical, but that's just my opinion.

fandoms develop their own lingo, it helps define them and adds flavor to their culture. I personally like fan idioms so long as the are in good taste. (for an example of a fan idiom in bad taste see 'pawsome' )
