Why does it have to be called a "first draft" when it's like 80% of the work? · 3:55am Mar 15th, 2012

Someone tell me. I want to call it "almost done" draft, or "You're so cool for getting this far" draft. I'm not saying that a first draft is all a writer needs to do, but it is most of the work. I'm forging a world out nothing but the sterile white void of the page! I think this calls for a word more prestigious than "first draft!"

Maybe bold font with give it power. FIRST DRAFT dun dun dun dun duuuuuun!

I mean, after the first draft, all that's left is to kind of plug up the leaks. Review those verbs and make sure they're good, consider alternate options when a passage isn't satisfying, cut things that aren't needed. Oh, and grammar. Stupid grammar is like squashing cock roaches, you're never going to get them all and it isn't fun! But that's nothing compared to crafting substance out of nothingness, universe from abyss.

Maybe I'm overstating it . . .

Oh, by the way, this is just a very goofy way for me to announce that chapter 13's first draft is complete. This usually means that the chapter will be released within a week from this date. Have a little preview of the art from the ever-Awesome Maxie.

I don't do first drafts, I spew onto the document, post, people complain about low quality, and I may or may not go back and fix it, or just make the next chapters better. Somehow my first fic has gotten 1,500 views of this method in like a week...
How?

Yeah, but you're a hobo. We expect you to be incoherent. That's your charm!

So, are you saying that I . . .

. . . gotta go fast? :rainbowhuh:

"First draft" just means that it's the first completed draft, or pre-publishing, copy of the document. Basically, it's a literal description (The writing's done, but not quite ready to be published yet), it just uses vocabulary that's obscure enough to confuse people.

Huzzah! The very first iteration of chapter thirteen has been put to paper! The reading has been doubled. (or at least it will be.) :twilightsheepish:

Wooohooo!

I'm so excited! One of my favorite stories, by one of my best friends is updating? I am ready and wating, can't wait to see what you have in store for us next Sly.

Take your time Slywit!! Damnit man, we can wait for perfection! :D
