    Season 9 Retrospective

Warning: Season-wide spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.

I need to write this while the emotions of the finale are still fresh in my mind. Though the stories will continue in the comics (and countless fanfics, I'm sure), this is truly the end of an animation era. So, as a final season, did it go out with a bang, or a whimper? Follow me below the break to see my take.

Random Thoughts: The Beginning of the End

Warning: Spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.

Mama pajama, that was a rush. I really feel like something was rekindled here. Season 8 was alright, but I will admit it didn't have the same energy that made me fall in love with this show. This episode, however, had that energy in spades. Follow me below the break as I just gush a bit on what an epic season opener this was.

    Season 8 Retrospective

Warning: Season-wide spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.

Welp, that was fun, huh? I know for most of you, the season ended earlier thanks to the Australian broadcast, but I didn't have the luxury of checking that out. Also, I'd rather do things by the book.

    Random Thoughts: The Washouts

Warning: Spoilers abound. Proceed with caution.

Let me just start off by saying great googily moogily, what a weekend this was! I thought Season 7 had scheduling problems, but this was just insane! Well, at least it's still trackable. Unlike some other shows I can mention *cough*TheLoudHouse*cough*.

Why Cloudsdale? · 2:08am Feb 10th, 2013

Warning: Spoilers from the latest episode Games Ponies Play abound. Proceed with caution.

Let me get this out of the way: I loved the insight into Rainbow Dash's foalhood and motivations in this episode. I felt it really added something to her character. But here's the thing: I highly doubt the Equestria Games would've been hosted in Cloudsdale, even if it was nominated (heck if I know why). Cloudsdale is a city in the clouds. I'm pretty sure ponies other than pegasi play at these games. You see where I'm going with this, right?

So, sorry Rainbow. I think the reason Cloudsdale was glossed over was because the games couldn't really be hosted there due to technical issues, not because of the Games Inspector not being impressed with what the city had to offer. Ah well, at the very least you managed to make things work for the Crystal Empire.

They can still host it, as the residents of Cloudsdale would be in charge of it all, it just can't be in the city.
It could've been right below Cloudsdale.

You madman! What the hell do you think you're doing bringing logic in here!? You'll blow us all to kingdom come! :trollestia:

812628 Well, maybe. But if the Equestria Games is supposed to be the Equestria equivalent of the Olympics (which I'm pretty sure it is), where would all of the competitors stay if Cloudsdale was picked? :rainbowderp:

812657
Hmm... I suppose they could put up some tents and stuff, or just use Ponyville since they are right next to each other right?
This makes me wonder something...
Pony Games = Olympics, so... wouldn't they have a pony games for each of the races, like the special olympics and the paralympics?
Derpy would win, as she would coincidentally drug her competitors.

812631 Suspension of disbelief means that I can believe in a city in the clouds where pegasi live and create weather. It does not mean that said city would be ideal for hosting the pony equivalent of the Olympics. :duck:

812681 There would probably be events for all three types of ponies, plus specialized events for specific ponies. Don't ask me for specifics on that front. In all honesty, I'm just guessing. :applejackunsure:

However, if the ending of this episode is any indication, we might find out in Season 4 when we get to see the Crystal Empire Equestria Games. :raritystarry:

812725
That would be a dick move...
TWILICORN MEMORIES FOR MONTHS!
Returns to remember about the crystal empire hosting the pony games...

If Cloudsdale stays in the same place, it makes sense to assume that there may be a settlement beneath it for non-pegasus family members, business associates and such. It may have gotten built up a bit in anticipation for the Games (like adding a stadium or something).

812739 I didn't say the Equestria Games had to be the season premier or anything, just that it sounded like it would be a plot in a future episode. I'd honestly be more disappointed if they didn't follow up on it, but that's just me. :duck:

812762 Hmm. I'll admit, that's certainly a possibility.
