As I write this, there's only one person who's likely to be reading it, but just in case others come later (and also as a reminder to my own future selves) Here it is before this thing gets going.
I have nothing against alicorn Twilight.
I can see a case for it having been built from the beginning, something being earned up toward or in training for, as it were. I don't see how it would ruin the dynamics of her friendship or the show.
Princess Twilight, on the other hand, I think could wait a while, at the least. Let her have at least her friends' lifetimes with them, or whatever would have been her natural life as a unicorn. Of course, she's only really been in the public eye for about 3 years our time, and probably about the same from her viewpoint.* That's not exactly putting in deep roots in town (aside from the punnish sense of living in a large tree.) Give her some time to live a life, now that she's finally been allowed to make one in the first place.
Other than the timing of the upcoming likely alicornication, which is screwing with my mind concerning the story I'm writing (and it's only the timing; the story could have handled Twilight getting wings if I'd gotten the thing out as quickly as it came into my head) I'm fine with what's going on.
I'm also okay if it turns out to be a big fakeout and she doesn't get wings. Just so that's out there too.
*Later edit: Apparently rather less than that!
