This is something I did after watching a video of pony race genetics, it was for fun, I had fun trying to sound intelligent when I'm really a dummy.
So here's this, scientific(?) reasons for colorful talking horses.

I've seen so many videos and artwork trying to explain the phenotypes of unicorn and pegasus - and I've always wanted my dream job in scientific research but it's very unliklely, so I want to be in the health sciences, not research but its still real stuff. - and I have several of my own opinions on different subjects that I've thought about and this will be where I post my findings and opinions on the fantasy pony race, to make me feel like I work for my dream job, and posting them so I don't feel like I'm muttering to myself.

What I want to accomplish are theorys and assesments on things like Eye Color, (mentioned in video) Possible Alicorn children, Coat Color gentics, Talent inheritence, behavior between generations and their offspring , (Said impossible in the video but I already have a counter- theory )Pegasus flight, (probably the hardest) Unicorn magical ability.

Pegasus Flight: If you watched the video you will have heard that he said Pegasus flight would be impossible because the wings cannot sustain a pony. - Wrong, using the theory of Adaptation or Evolution you would be able to tell how a pegasus can defy this law of physics, which even in the real world can sometimes become null.

Why: Pegasus have always been mythical creatures I've have only seen a few times in Greek mythology where Perseus was given it by his father Zues - I want to prove false pegasus flight wrong because I don't believe that there is any magic in wings (Unless your a bumblebee, who are aerodynamically uncapable of flight - but guess what? They don't give a shit they fly anyway) and I have alot of thought against magic in wings.

How: As you see in the show, Pegasi in early life are either terribly weak flyers or cannot fly at all - but you see them flying around in Cloudsdale anyway. My theory with enough practice and time stretching their wings, or flapping them, you can see them beggining to get the hang of flight(Developing muscle,feathers, length), which is where you see Rainbow Dash being able to fly at such a high speed at an early age because Flight is her thing and talent, she most likley excessivley practiced flight for a long time.

Which leads to, Adaptation - any alteration in the structure or function of an organism or any of its parts that results from natural selection and by which the organism becomes better fitted to survive and multiply in its environment.

Because they are constantly flapping their wings they are growing in length to suit the needs to fit their body mass and weight to become useable and then giving them the ability to flight.

Now for my theory involving Evolution. Evolution - Change in the gene pool of a population from generation to generation by such processes as mutation, natural selection, and genetic drift.

In my thoughts I would say that for a long time Earth Ponies domininated the population for a long time until other traits came into view (Unicorn and Pegasus) and at first the Pegasus were just on the ground with small wings, walking around normally - and after a long time(not just a year, more like a few generations) of all of them flapping, trying to get them to work, they eventually gained the ability of flight and then it kept going on and now you see Pegasus living in the sky and not on the ground.

Not everything has to be magic, Ironic considering my favorite race is Unicorn, I detest magic and try to disprove it - lets just say I was the only one not clapping my hands at a preschool magic show.

Heres my first look into the race of Pegasus - My next assesment will probably be over Talent inheritence

Huh?: Pegasus can walk on clouds when others can't - this will come later, I need to think about this one.

Okay now I'm going to prove Pegasus Cloud walk. (Warning, no way possible to be proven correct unless I can cut open a pegasus.. and I can't get a hold of Pinkie.)

Why: In the video above in the first entry it said that Pegasus Cloud walk was impossible unless there was magic involved. So I want to prove that wrong with several reasons, but these reasons aren't strong but they work together.

How: 1st reason: Pegasi have hollow bones as birds do, this allows them to stand on clouds because of their lack of density. PROBLEM WITH THIS: Rainbow Dash has crashed several times and she would probably be dead by now if she did have hollow bones. WHAT I THOUGHT OF TO COUNTER THIS: Pegasi may have hollow bones, but that would mean for Rainbow to survive she would have to not have hollow bones, but then she wouldn't be able to walk on clouds. BUT due to the Ponies much larger mass than birds they have the possiblity to have reinforced bone structure for their hollow bones. But to prove this right I would need to look at the anatomy of a pegasi.

2nd Reason: Because the pegasi have wings their hearts have to beat faster to be able to keep their wings usable, making their blood warmer than other pony species. The warm blood can be a factor in keeping above clouds. In the air whats warm usually stays above whats cold and in the clouds are heavy cold water, and above them are a light warm pegasus. These two factors together COULD be enough to prove Pegasus Cloudwalk, but they are theorys.

Huh? I still don't have a Pegasus to dissect.. does anypony have Pinkie's number?

Now I'm going to have a brief look into the Alicorn phenominon.

Why? in the video it said over time that Alicorns can be possible down the bloodline to normal ponies and I started thinking on some possiblities, if Alicorns are possible this is what should happen.

How? Further down the genetic bloodline the phenotypes should mix together to have a possible alicorn (You hear this in the video) if this is true then that means that alicorns could eventually become as populus as the Unicorns and Pegasi.

Right now I think the earth/unicorn/pegasus ratio is about 50-25-25. and if the alicorn species (over time) join the population i predict it will be about 25-25-25-25 earth/unicorn/pegasus/ Alicorn.

The Alicorns are a mix of all three races at once, but this raises the question. Are they the dominant race? My answer: Only in the short run.

Why(part 2): Alicorns have all three traits and at first look this seems like they have the ace up their sleeve, but I say no, not quite.

How(part2): their are two major Alicorns, the princesses. what I'm about to share may not be accurate, an alicorn could suck, but since these two are divine beings that could be a major variable. The only other alicorn ever shown was a little filly and you don't get to see her ability in flight or magic. Another variable, You never see the princesses doing anything physical so I'm not able to measure the strength dominance.

FLIGHT: The one time you actually see the princesses fly is when Celestia flies to personally retreive the letter and you hear the sound she makes when she flies. She sounds like a jet engine when she flies - This hints that she is probably really fast.

BUT: She cannot perform a sonic rainboom, if she did everyone would know about it and not say its only a legend. Rainbow Dash did a sonic rainboom when the princess couldn't and this shows that The alicorns could possibly have Flight advantage, but that doesn't stop single raced ponies to surpass them. My assessment, yes they do have the advantage, but again, doesn't stop them from being surpassed. ALSO: remember the variable that these are divine/godly/immortal figures and could have been given their skills. so this is inaccurate in the sense of how good the alicorns are, I doubt a regular non royal alicorn would be any better.

MAGIC: You see Celestia and Luna controlling the moon, my guess is that its probably hard considering nobody else can do it. so you can tell they have high magic ability.

BUT: you see Twilight having high destuctive magic at a very young age, my guess is that if she happened to do that again at the point in her life when shes already amazing at magic is that a major shitstorm would happen lol.

Conclusion: Yes, Alicorns do have dominance, but only in the standards. They can be surpassed in a category if they are good enough in their trait. but again, variables say that they could possibly not be so powerful without their royal powers over the moon and sun.

Huh?: I would like to see that young filly do some magic or fly to have a more accurate assesment of the Alicorn dominance, but you only see her for like 4 seconds in the flashback of "Lesson Zero" when Twi is having a magic kindergarten flashback.

You should examine other races or at least make stuff up scientifically for them. Here's one

Dragons: growth, lifespan and anatomy.

Anatomy:

Jaws:

If diamonds are the strongest substance then naturally a dragons teeth mush me even stronger. At least strong enough to turn a gem stone into powder and shatter it with extreme ease as Spike can easily break through them with his incisiors(front teeth, the weakest of teeth). The muscles in his jaw must also be powerful to support the chewing of jewels.

Scales and Skin:

Their skin and scales also have to be as strong and fire proof to a certain degree. The mouth any creature is lines with skin, therefore the skin in dragons mouth must have these resistances to fire and the sharpness of diamonds.

Wings:

Not every species of dragon has these. Winged dragons are similar to pegasi. River/sea sepents and water elemetal dragons are also lack flight.

Magic:

Though not observed very often. Dragons from the far east known as luck dragons, which are non agressive and large with serpent like bodies are capable of magic, proof of this come from their abiltiy of flight without wings. An average dragon may be able to use basic potions. All dragon types capable of flame have a direct connection to magic as their flame can be used to teleport small objects over a large distance.

Diet:

Most species of dragon will eat gems, but will dine on other things. There are several types that dine on meat and the water dragon elemental and its close relative the sea/river serpents dine on marine life and algae. In spike's case his species acts more like an omnivore; they will eat vegetation, insects and gems.

Alcohol for the sentient species of dragon that consume it has no ill effects on them. Their flame glands burn the alchol before it can even enter their blood stream. They drink for the taste and the health benefits. alchol is good for the glands that create a dragon's flame.

Intelligence:

Most dragons and drago serpents are sentient and capable of complex thought, and if raised by or taught by other creatures have the abiltiy to learn and make decisions based on that knowledge. Though agressive species are less inclines to this type of behavior and lack the sentience to act on rational thought.

Growth and Lifespan:

A dragon's emotions are deeply tied to thier growth/developement and lifespan. Greed and anger turn a dragon into a rage monster that is only concerned with gathering a horde and causing as much destuction as possible. A dragon of this caliber will grow to a size relative to their anger and greed sometimes growing as large as a fifteen story building and living for several thousand years. It happens rarely but if these negative emeotions are replaced with kindness, compassion and generocity a dragon's size and lifespan is relative to the creatures around them.

Diamond Dog

Canis diamondis Subterrenus

Description: Diamond dogs are a highly evolved species of canine.

Anatomy:

Diamond Dogs are mostly bipedal, but often switch between a four legged movement for speed and a two legged stance for complex problem solving. A Diamond Dog's main advantage over their other canine brethen is their increased brain size and sentience along with increase in size.

Diet:

Diamond Dogs are carnivores but like their cousin the timber wolve will eat vegetation in instnace where meat is unavailable. Little is known about the aniamls they consume, what is evident is they seem to eperience some level of compassion or at least have self imposed laws against eating other sentient life.

Growth and Life Span:

A diamond Dog depending on breed will grow no larger than three meters tall. The life span of a Diamond dog is the shortest of higher level races that inhabit Equestria. The oldest Diamod Dog on record has been found to be no older than 55 years old. The average life span for the species is roughly 50 years. This is due to them having a very high metabolic rate.

Life spans of sentient Equestrian races

Alicorn(15,000+ yrs)
Average/Rage Dragon with no restrictions(~6,000 yrs)
Griffin(250 yrs)
Pony: Earth, Pegasus, Unicorn(about 300 yrs) - Granny Smith is about 300 years old.
Tame/Virtue Dragon(~150+ yrs: this again depends on those around them)
Diamond Dog(~50 yrs)

Intelligence:

Though they are reported to be the last of the sentient races to gain and develope complex thought, Diamond Dogs are very intelligent and are still developing as a race. They have already discovered metal working, textile making, art and mining.

Behavior like other members of the canine species is pack like, however what is different is the inclusion of multiple males and the ability to express other complex emotion.

Habitat:

Diamond Dogs live mostly underground and little is known about their governmental hierharchy.
