Me right now · 2:53am Jan 30th, 2013

I've had a long day. A very long day. College is hard. Work is hard. Lots of stress, lots of bills, and not enough money. I just started a diet/workout plan a few days ago, and Im hungry, and I cant have ANYTHING I freaking like, and I am the most miserable son of a nag right now. The one good thing I have to look forward to everyday is the wonderful world of pony. Its an opiate thats keeping me sane.

So, after this long stressful day of classes found by three hours of kicking my ass running and lifting weights? What do I find?

Twilight is an Alicorn.

*twitches* Happy place... happy place... just ignore that hasbro is ruining the possible freedom in storytelling we have with these characters... just like they did with Discord... ignore it... happy place...

I swear, Hub. You're on paper thin ice with this one. Don't screw it up.

Is it wrong that my first thought upon reading this was "oh, man, I'm TOTALLY stealing the phrase 'son of a nag?"

Seriously though, relax. At least wait until the episode actually airs and you see what they do with it before you freak out

I'm just hoping they don't screw up because of this turns out bad, the internet may go nuclear.

Calm down, it's been pretty obvious for a while now that this was going to happen, It's not that big of a deal.

Here's a thought that might help. What if, at the beginning of season 3, there'd been the following leaked spoiler:

"They're going to add a fourth Cutie Mark Crusader, and it's not just a one-episode thing."

I bet you that the fandom would have exploded, much like it is exploding now. And yet even those who turned out not to like Babs Seed all that much generally haven't accused her of ruining the CMC or the show in general. Heck, Princess Cadence was once considered a harbinger of doom for the show and now people either feel comfortable ignoring her or incorporate neat new ideas about her into their fanfics - no ruination to be seen. I suspect it'll be the same here.

TDR

Honestly with as many people who make Twilight an Alicorn in their fics any way I am curious to see which one is closest to canon.:derpytongue2:

Wat? No seriously, What!?
If you honestly feel that the shows canon will Limit what we can write in the fanon, I feel bad for you.
People have been writing Alicorn Twilight for ages and here's the neat part.

It works both ways!
That's right if you want Twilight to be normal she can be! An Alicorn? SURE!
This is Fanon if you let the shows canon dictate what you write then maybe you should check again why you wrote.

And if you find yourself genuinely agitated and feel the need to declare how terrible the path writers are going down is remember this.

It's their story they gave us everything we've based our stuff off of and if they want to change a character then good for them

770713 It changes what we can and what we can't do with them. Personally, I think bringing Discord back was the WORST possible thing they could do from a writer's standpoint. Yes, its there show, and yes, I LOVED to hear John DeLancie as our favorite god of chaos. Wonderful to have him back, and as a brony, decent episode. As a fanfic writer, not so good.

But putting Discord on ice by turning him to stone was the best thing they could've done when they introduced him. That opened a world of possibilities of what you COULD do with him. Hero, villian, neutral trickster, or a comedic laugh gag. He could be a helpful protagonist, an ex-lover of Celestia's or a tormented god. He could cause havoc in Canterlot Castle, driving Luna nuts, or he could bring about the end of days. We had the freedom to do anything with him! Why? Because as far as the Hub was concerned, they weren't using him anymore!

We now still have that freedom, just... less. He's a good character. He'll still cause mischeif. But he's... bleck... Good. Reformed villains are sorta useless in canon for a fanfic purpose. We can no longer write about the million and one ways he broke free or the dark chaos he could cause. We're now limited, and I mourn that loss. Same goes for the Alicorn Twilight. Those fics, (good and bad), are such a treat for people to write because they explore a character depth. They ask the: what if? They offer a WORLD of possibilities. But if the show goes and does that very "what if"... then it loses its magic.

As fanfic writers, our job isn't to write story already been told. We're to write everything that isn't said in the show. We're to write the "what ifs" and "This was how". Thats the fun of reading and writing fanfics. We explore a realm of unexplored possibilities.

Again, I'm PRAYING to her radiant majesty, Nightmare Moon, that the Hub can pull this off with grace, and style. If they can, awesome. If not...

I couldn't have said it better myself.
But what changes? So what if Twilight becomes an Alicorn?
that only opens more doors for everyone that is shut.

Discord free now? What happens if he slips back into chaos?
What if he was imprisoned again only to return when Fluttershy had passes away?
What if he couldn't have been saved?

What if it was Shining Armor who became an Alcorn? I don't understand why many other writers feel like this is a stab to the heart.

We've come out of ever other game changer quite fine.
Heck last time we got Chrysalis, Cadance and Shining Armor.

Its crazy for people to assume the worst when they have yet to let us down.
I have to end this here as my iPod appears to be throwing a fit.

I'm a bit worried about continuity into S4 and the 'two of each race' balance, but I have faith in our benevolent gods way up on mount DHX.
Most specifically, I hope the episode doesn't get leaked, and I really wish they'd waited until the last week before for the big reveal.

Although... I think that if I were in the original target audience, and knew nothing about this huge fandom (or it somehow didn't exist), I'd be REALLY exited for this, then be somewhat disappointed when/if she has to give up her powers. :shrugs:

One last idea I had while typing this: Sombra returns, and it takes almost 100% of her immortal-alicorn-ness to defeat him, reverting her to a normal, temporarily unconscious unicorn.

771213 Long day. I also just re-trainwrecked my self-esteem by reading the last chapter of the Immortal Game. So yeah... :fluttercry:

Ah, who cares if Twilight's an alicorn I still love her either way and you should too even if she decides to keep her powers or not. Either way, I'll still be a brony. I'll still watch the show everyweek, make fanart, make fan animations, and even continue to write dreadful fanfics just because I can. It'll all turn out for the best in the end. I'm afraid you are overreacting just a tad and you need to get into your head, "things will change and I'm okay with that,"

I mean look at all these smiling, happy, faces. you can't say no to that!

Optimistic comment is very optimistic.
