About What Everypony's Freaking Out About: I Want My Prediction on Record . . . · 12:57am Jan 30th, 2013

. . . Because it's gonna come true, and then I'm gonna laugh at you all. No, seriously. I'm right about this. Trust me.

Yes, Twilight will have wings . . . for one episode. Two, maybe. Didn't we all read the episode synopses? Some magical phlebotinum's gonna happen that switches up the characters' cutie marks and, thus, their roles. Twilight will have a switch up with Cadance, probably, or maybe another princess. Then she'll get her old body design back after she's sorted the problem out.

They're a) making an excuse to produce new toys and b) yanking our chains. Haven't we figured out yet that the people working on this show are really good at yanking Brony chains?

See Eric M. Ryan for an excellent compilation of the available data.

Also, this video--

Addendum: Also, I'm totally gonna brohoof myself if the whole thing goes down without one canonical occurrence of the word "alicorn." I don't know why, but I think that's a stupid word. Yes, it predates the Brony fandom amongst MLP fans, and yes, it got used in an ambiguous context in "Magic Duel," but I'll be really happy if it never shows up again. I will be perfectly okay with Twilight becoming a princess as long as she doesn't get called an alicorn in the show.

I hope this is what happens.
Can we get a hopeful pic in here?
Damn, still can't do street...

I dunno man, reading the that one magazine's article it seems sort of like a permanent deal. I don't think they'd be trying to troll anyone.

I've become more attached to the idea that this will be a permanent change. At this point I'll actually be disappointed if it doesn't go through.

I've considered the possibility of a bait-and-switch after I heard about the cutie mark magic plot. It's just that I'm not sure they'd go back on this change considering the whole toy line devoted to Alicorn Twilight.

OMG, TWILIGHT IS GOING TO TURN INTO CADANCE, THE MOST BORING PRINCESS EVER!!!!111!!!!

This changes EVERYTHING.
Next time Twilight needs to go Canterlot fly ride a train like Rainbow Dash.
Next time she duels Trixie she will cast magic cast magic.
Next time she has a sleep over it will be perfect a disaster.
Next time someone needs a pet she will help stand in the background and watch.
Next time she has to keep a secret she will keep it blurt it out on accident.
And worst of all, next time she visits the princess, she will have a casual conversation over tea.
See, everything will be completely different.

But I like Cadance . . .

Cannon Cadance has as much personality as a block of wood.

Luckily we have fanfics like How to Remove an Alicorn Tooth to fill in the gaps.

LOL that was my reaction in a nutshell.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I figured as well. Although the EW article does make it sound like the change is gonna be permanent, but they didn't state it outright.

I thought that would be the case, but that's a LOT of toys they are putting out to sell, I think Hasbro would want a permanent change so they could shift all that merchandise.

"I don't know why, but I think that's a stupid word."

Thank the lords of Kobol that I'm not the only one.

At this stage, I think season 3 has been utter trash, so I expect even this episode will fail to make me think any worse of it. I would certainly hope that it is a temporary thing, and if this is the 'destiny' thing that has been alluded to, then it will likely be an exemplar of shitty and unimaginative writing. There's a high chance that I'm just not going to give a damn about S4 at this point, but I'll at least give them the chance not to screw it up completely.

My opinion of season 3 has been back and forth. I think it's been a weak season with some strong points. "Magic Duel" and "Just for Sidekicks" are, to my mind, on a par with the best in other seasons. I hated "Keep Calm and Flutter on"--at first. After rewatching, I warmed up to it and decided my initial reaction was reading too much into it.

The season premiere is mediocre, mostly because both the crystal ponies and the villain lacked anything like personality or motivation, and both "Wonderbolts Academy" and "Spike at Your Service" are downright horrid, but otherwise, it's not been terrible. I think the series has another season in it at least.

To keep the show going, they might need a change-up like Twilight ascending to princesshood. How long, really, can you drag out a show that's just about a student writing letters about her friends? If Twilight Sparkle becomes a permanent princess, then I expect her to go on an ambassadorial mission and/or adventure to exotic foreign lands where she encounters strange monsters, like they did in the old-school My Little Pony, the real My Little Pony.

... I hate to break it to you, but... :trixieshiftleft::trixieshiftright:

Here's Meghan McCarthy on the subject: “What we didn’t want to do was change who she is as a character, because she’s certainly someone that everyone’s proud to know and love,” McCarthy says. “I don’t think becoming a princess really changes her; I think it’s going to introduce some new challenges for her.” - Does that sound temporary?

I'd changed my mind. See my next post.

774100 Oh well. It was a good theory. That's what I'd been hoping myself, but ... such is the life of a hoardsmith.
