Happy 20th Anniversary, DreamWorks' "Madagascar" (1,400th blog is one that makes sense)

Original Release Date: May 27th, 2005

Yes that hurt to type. Yes it's true. And yes I am actually currently watching it. Blessings be it that I can watch one of the best DreamWorks movies from the latter half of the 2000s.

Happy 50th Anniversary "Jaws" · 11:27pm June 20th

Original Release Date: June 20th, 1975

(Original Trailer)

Yes people! The movie that has subsequently scared at least 2 generations away from beaches (and making us hyper aware of night swimming and shark watches), is now 50 years old. Who would've thought a movie about a bloodthirsty great white shark would be so thrilling and terrifying?! Clearly the producers/director/cinematography crew/ composers and basically everyone who worked on that one, had some idea about just what they were bringing into the cinematic universe. I mean, hell just try and name a more iconic opening scene for a horror/thriller flick!

(People still get the chills with this opening, stg!)

Show and barely tell. That is basically a task this film executed flawlessly! How were these murders happening? Why was a great white shark this close to a coastline anyways? But did it ever occur to people that the animal might've been sick and therefore not within it's right mind? Nope! Because that's just it. Jaws knew what he was doing to an extent (sharks are quite intelligent creatures and won't typically want to attack humans. They'll only attack if they feel threatened or if there's carrión nearby. After all....there's a reason these critters have been around since the dinosaur age!). Dare I bring up, yet another iconic scene? Yes. Yes I shall.

I can't honestly say more. This movie says it all and it still holds it's own 50 years later. Amazing truly. So as with all things, cheers for 50 years!

Til next time,
-PH27 (currently at a Lithia celebration til' midnight. Joyous solstice everyone!)
