My computer has finally died · 12:35am Jan 12th, 2013
Yep, I am no longer the proud owner of a computer for myself, and I am only able to tell any of you because my father has a another computer that I am able to use... but back to the point:
It was a Windows 7 that was bought by me on my birthday a few years back (at least two if not three) and for as long as my short memory can remember, it has always had an astoundingly loud fan running constantly, not just while I was using it, but for as long as it was running... but what is important is that yesterday, I had noticed that everything was running a hell of a lot slowert than usual... but I put it asside as internet connection problems... then this morning, before I went to my job-trainning (I'm almost at the point where I have the job) I came back, only to find that it would not load even the simplest web-page, it froze while opening .txt documents, even froze while typing INTO .txt documents... and then, while in a fit of anger by the icy-cold condition of its frozen screen, I manually held the button, turning it off
and when I turned it back on, it took twenty minutes to get onto the log-on screen, ten minutes longer than normal, but after I had entered my password and attempted to logg me in, the screen flashed and said that it was logging off before it turned off... since then, I have only seen a black black screen with six white dashes in a line on the top of the screen (like normal) but then it continues the dashes for the rest of the top, only without a full white, but a strange array of bits of code, ranging in color...
So it is with a saddened heart that I say that I can not continue writing, even when my promiss is fulfilled and I have a job, until I have a computer to work with, and even then, it will be without all of the progress I have saved on that hard-drive
Do not trasht he tower if that is what you have, as long as heat damage has not gotten tot he hard drive it can be recovered, if you can I would take the tower to see if any major damage has been done, From the sound of it the heat sink and cooling fan was under powered...which is why I keep my room cold, it helps the computer ease on the fan. Though you do not need to keep a computer super cold unless it runs really hot ....like this laptop i have...you could press a freaking shirt with this damn thing...
701778 I would love to... but I have to be honest in saying my two big concerns: 1) I live in florida (USA) , and as far as I know you live in London (England) and 2) I am a bit (well, more than a bit) hessitant to giving people I do not know, my personal belongings (especially ones this important to me)
701799
you mis-understand what I said. I meant for you to take your computer to a shop to have it looked at by a tech, as for where I am look a state up and you will have my general location
701960 Obviously I missunderstood you... but I still apperciate the advice... but still, I can't say that even if I get it looked at and fixed, that the issue will be resolved, because I don't have a proper cooling system for it... only the location it was in, and somehow inside my refrigorator (I know, I'm boing scarcastic)
and I never said I would throw the tower away, I still have my old XP's tower and hard drive (I used one of the CD drives to upgrade my Windows 7) in hope that I can still get my information back... bust till, if I can save money and get a good working computer, I'm all for it!!!

Well as for a cooling system if you are not able to make the room cold then placing a small but powerful fan near the air intake of the tower and turning it on high will help, but I only say this to be used on a fully working tower. Now I would not turn ont he over heating tower until you either are able to replace the cooling fan and better heat sink. any further use will cause large scale damage to the hard drive and other key parts in the tower.
Now you can remove the hard drive and take it to a computer store and have them put it into a test tower so you can see if any of the data has been damaged or if the hard drive still even works. Well the truth is heat sinks and cooling fans are not cheap nor will it cost you an arm and a leg...unless you get a fan and sink made for gaming computers....those things can move some air...
702093 I can't controll the air temperature without highly disturbing the other people in the house... and I can put a fan there, but it will be rather obnoxious... but I still have to get it running first... and as for the computer guys... I look over some tomarrow... but as for right now, it's fully unplugged and sitting on the table it used to sit under

Hmm Well in that case it is either buy a new computer or see if you can replace the cooling fan in the over heated tower. If you can take the tower body off if you can to see if anything is melted. If this is not something you want to do you can have the computer tech do this. if nothing is damaged other than the fan and sink, then you will not have to buy a whole new compter just a fan and better heat sink
702194 all I know is that it's going to cost me an arm and a legg no matter what I do... and when I have almost no cash to speak of, it's almost litteral
until then, all I can do is smile and try not to go off on a killing spree
702223
Well I guess just put a sticky note ont he tower to remind yourself of different things to do once you have the materials needed...like cash....
Well it's been a while. How have you been my friend! Aside the fact that your computer has finally kicked the bucket. Glad to see that your promise is almost done.
702395 yes, almost... but I can't exactly do much writing if I can only use it for a few minutes at a time...
702650
I can understand, moms stressing over how much of a shut in I am.
702657
you know... I can kinda understand where they're comming from, but they really need to lay off of us (or at least give us a little slack)... my mom's threattening to kick me out to the curb if I don't get a job in this trashed economy by my next birthday...
702669
Yeah I get that a lot. Although now that the prospect of me actually leaving the house hits her she's very nice now. You could take a freelance job. Look for something on the net that you could do, if you have some computer skills, it's how I make a 3rd of my money.
702674
first, she has other children... I'm not an only child... second, I wouldn't even know where to start, I don't even have a personal computer anymore anyway...
702686
Neither am I, know it still hurts though. Right... The odd job should do. In this economy even if it isn't set money is money.
702690
It's hard to explain when you don't know her...
and again, I don't even know where to start to get an odd job anywhere... I have almost no connection to the outside world other than my web account and my family
702705
I'm not even going to pretend to understand. I stay away from familial affairs. Check the newspapers, given you don't have a computer, hard print is how to go.
702712 great! now I have to find someone who still reads the newspaper... this might take a while
702723
Can't take any longer than finishing school.
702728 I already finished... I'm still in the process of getting a job with my new knowledge (as little as it is)
702732
Hehehe. Don't most colleges have a career office?
702741 I could only afford a cheep online college... only $2,000 for the course but they don't really care at all... and it's a legitimate degree and everything, don't get me wrong...
702750
Humm... You're screwed!
702757
thanks for the positive words
still, there's little I can do about it anyway... so might as well be happy about it
