Is the story you poured your heart into just not getting the attention you hoped?
Do you enjoy reading and reviewing other people's stories?
Then I'd like to recommend the super-cool Authors Helping Authors group. It is one of the neatest ideas for a group ever. Basically, it's fanfic writers exchanging reviews of each other's stories. Read someone's story and give a review, get a read and a review in return. Sounds awesome, right?
Well, it really is. Not only do your stories get a few more precious likes and favorites, but you get exposed to stories you never would have otherwise, perhaps in genres that you wouldn't normally read. I've already discovered several new stories to follow, and found some new readers of my own stories. And the reviews they leave are really helpful!
Also, it's a lot of fun.
So if you haven't checked this group out yet, and this sounds like something you would be interested it, click here: Authors Helping Authors
I was thinking about your story and what I should say about it, so I pulled it up on my break at work to find those reviews in the comments. I'm pretty happy for you! It's a great thing you're getting. Before too long, you won't even need me.
I'm still rather lukewarm about joining groups. I like to tell people what I think about their stories, but I'm not the greatest at review (I don't think). I don't notice very often if a sentence or two is wrong grammar wise, or what convention they misused (The point of good writing is how you break the rules anyway). It is an awesome concept, I'll admit.
700137 Thanks! You should totally join some groups. There's got to be an Applejack group around full of people who would really want your story added there so they can find it! (And your reviewing is as good as anyone's. To be honest, most people don't need grammar help as much as an honest opinion of what worked for you as a reader and what didn't. Anyone who likes stories can do that, and I know I've greatly appreciated your comments on my stories.) Anyway, you're on here every day, right? You should give it a try! Um...if you want to that is...
700151 I'll give it a look at least. I need to get some sleep. I wish I could comment on yours as fast as you do mine. I usually have the time to read at work, but I don't really have internet access there (However, there is a sweet spot of Wifi that can be found if I stand on the curb in front of the building...). I come home, I sleep, I wake up, I've got a very small amount of time for things before working again. I don't want to leave you a hurried or sleep deprived comment.
Authors Helping Authors is a great group! It's probably one of the best ideas that I've heard of in quite a while. If Kolwynia didn't convince you then maybe you'll take my word for it: If you're an author who wants to get some solid feedback, I would join. Plus, you get to help others in the process of helping yourself. It's really a win-win!
