A human is isekai'd to Equestria before the term isekai became popular enough to appear all over the internet and the story is about the ultimate self insert. I refused to read it mainly because it's very existence offended me. It is the source of so many bad Fimfiction story elements that pop up everywhere that it's insane.

When I came to Fimfiction I was more of a Fallout Equestria fan in terms of my fanfiction taste. And anthro clop embarrassingly enough.

This is more insulting than anime isekai by a mile.

im not surprised, look up naruto fics and the top ones are almost all the same slop fics that are so bad that they leave no impression on your brain thus are forgotten by the end of the week, personally , i saw this years ago and it looked trash then, it looks trash now, any fic that long is 99.9999999999% of the time absolute gibberish, packing a bazilllions things into a plot, or has a insanely slow burn where is takes 50k words for anything in the plot to move.

Well, imo there are good anime Isekai, although they tend to be old-school. Aura Battler Dunbine, Magic Knight Rayearth and its sequel, El Hazard (the original OVA at least, diminishing returns after that), Vision of Escaflowne, for something more modern I enjoy Re: Zero.

Like any trope, it depends on execution, unfortunately it's often used for a very lazy power fantasy. I'm not interested in a story without any struggle, although I doubt that's the case with this story.

My own shared lore could be considered a form of Isekai, albeit it's about OCs being drawn across dimensions to make a mish-mash pulp adventure, as I was inspired partially by Elric of Melnibone (Multiverse, he's kind of an Isekai protagonist himself) and old-school Doctor Who. (A traveler dropped into another genre such as a horror or western, and we see how this outsider influences the story.)

I try to support stories I like by liking, commenting, sharing, etc. That's all you can really do, support what you want to see, as you've already been writing what you favor.

i mean, personally there are still some great isekai anime today, the modern genre itself sucks, but within the genre there are outliners.

reincarnated as a slime, shield hero season 1, overlord, and a few others. not the nest and with a few flaws, but not a bad watch imo

id def say the power fantasy angle kills alot of weight in the stories

also, personally ? never saw the appeal of re:zero, seemed by the number isekai by the time i watched the first season.

Re: Zero is partially a deconstruction of the genre (the hero thinks he's about to become a cool hero that will be rewarded with a beautiful woman, instead lots of struggles and misery follows), plus it goes into the psychology of its protagonist, showing that he's often his own worst enemy. Of course, if you can't get behind Subaru, it's not likely to capture you. I enjoyed such a flawed protagonist and like the cast in general.

Personally, I'd put Shield Hero among the crap modern Isekai, while I thought Overlord was mediocre. As I said though, I'm sure gems exist in the current trend, I just don't care to sift through a desert of mediocrity to garbage to find them. They're simply not for me.

Basically since I got into the fandom I never quite liked the Human In Equetria genere when it takes itself seriously.

It basically is a Harem Fantasy with no understanding of irony or comedy from the one chapter I read.

It was one of the more infamous fics on this site since 2014 and it started in 2012.

I forgot that whole new generation came into this site and made things better. I hang out here without paying much attention.

I have no real issue with the genre. I am a fan of Konosuba and the Vision of Escaflowne OVA. And Kemono Michi which is written by the Konosuba author.

But yeah the genre is mostly trash.

Konosuba and Kemono Michi are dear to me both for waifu design and me loosing my sides into orbit per episode for a while.

shield hero season 1 was goated back in the day, it kinda came out mostly before all the slop. season 2 was trash and season 3 was ight.. as a whole its meh, but season 1 by itself ? actually pretty decent, if not outright good, it def made waves and ispired boat loads of copy cats.

overlord falls into power fantasy, but has boooku bucks worth of amazing looking characters designs and nifty abilities plus abit of world building. id say overlord just needed to remove the politics and power fantasy and itd be a easy top top 10, it has like 4-5 seasons, and a populary comparable to re:zero so it has to be at least above medicore imo.

as for your above commennt about konasuba ? personally i think thats just more isekai slop but slightly better and has humor. watched everything, and if you remove the humor and it falls apart,.

Konosuba knows exactly what it is, whether that appeals to you is a different story.

I'm reminded of this (not mine) Reddit rant on Shield Hero:

Shield Hero is legitimately terrible. The premise is so disingenuous I can’t even. Naofumi has zero experience in gaming, has the worst class (according to the show itself), is severely underleveled, is hated by everyone, yet somehow NEVER FUCKING LOSES. Underdog my ass. And mind you, Naofumi doesn’t succeed because of his brilliance (though he is the smartest person in this anime) but because the other characters are so stupid it’s surprising they can take a shit without staining their pants. Not to mention, the conflict feels contrived all the freakin time. This anime lives by the maxim of “Make Naofumi look good and everyone else look bad.” That is the gameplan for all conflict in this show.

Oh, and Myne is a contender for the laziest written villain in anime. Calling her one dimensional is generous, her personality is better measured on a three digit decimal scale. In fact, all the hero’s personalities are better measured on a three digit decimal scale. That's how underdeveloped their characterizations are.

And let’s talk about Raphtalia. I give props that she was able to give both loli and basic waifu fanservice. That is one hardworking girl. However, the epitome of her character is her willingness to stay a slave so that she can prove her devotion to Naofumi. Yup, that’s pretty much all there is to her. Devoted slave girl, the otaku’s wet dream.

Filo. Ha, let me not even begin on her.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for the bullshit controversy Shield Hero, in this competitive season, would’ve stayed in relative obscurity where it belongs.

i do not agree with the sheild hero slander, i cant fullly disagree with point made, but its kinda disingenuous to call it trash, all the point are mostly right, but taken and cranked to a 10, is the show perfect ? no, great ? no, good compared to its peers and byitself (season 1) yes. although it might of been a victim of sanitizing manga when turning them into anime that ruin allota shows
