    Kowloon Generic Romance
What’s it about?  A mystery, and at least one romance, set in a sci-fi future where the Kowloon Walled City wasn't demolished.

    overdosed on manga

A week where I don't have anything significant to say about anime, but was on vacation and read a bunch of manga so this would really be too much to report later this month, so I guess I'll do an abbreviated post.

Late this month, I'll do a long overdue manga shitpost, and then I think maybe I'll be back to full-up, with pictures and stuff to go along with the new season.

Shows I might try next season

Dress Up Darling season 2 is coming.  There’s also the Chainsaw Man movie and the latest Demon Slayer movie.

    As for new stuff:

Secrets of the Silent Witch, about a witch who perfected magic that doesn't need to be spoken...because she's too introverted to talk to anyone.

There's No Freaking Way I'll be Your Lover! Unless..., about a girl trying to friendzone another girl who wants to be lovers.  I think I probably have read this, but don’t specifically remember it.  Hope the anime stands out.
Hotel Inhumans, kind of the John Wick concept of an entire hotel that caters to assassins.
Bullet/Bullet, a post-apocalypse adventure.

And now down to current stuff:

Kowloon Generic Romance
It's getting harder to believe this show is going to stick the landing. I have no idea where it's all going, and there are apparently four episodes left. Having said that, the ride is still great, and even if it does falter at the end, it will have been worth it.

A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof
It's kind of getting to the point that it's not fun anymore, like getting addicted to a drug that starts off with highs good enough to deal with the lows, but slowly transitioning the other way until the pleasure isn't worth the pain. A lot of people get ganked. Nothing matters.

Bye Bye, Earth season 2
I guess I'm sticking around for the finale, though this show has definitely lost some luster from last year. We did finally get some answers, which helps, but I'm not sure I really appreciated what was revealed. It just felt kind of frivolous.

And now down into the manga.

List organized in rough order of my most to least favorite.

Below are those manga that I recommend.

The Apothecary Is Gonna Make This Ragged Elf Happy received a serialization.  In an unusual move, the manga is an adaptation of the light novel that was an adaptation of the webcomic I previously reviewed.

The Villainess' Bride
Having had her engagement to a prince broken, a woman is exiled to the frozen north, but meets a princess of the wolf tribe to keep her warm.
While the actual yuri romance isn't standout, undercut by a revenge plot, at least the characters and setting are interesting. Ecchi.

Big Love from Ultra Deep Space
A tall introverted girl is startled when an even taller alien transfer student proposes yuri marriage on first sight.
We’ve seen, well, some of these tropes before.  Only a few chapters yet, but I’m still waiting to see actual romance, something that makes them more than just roomates.  Author draws distinctive eyelashes.  Ecchi.

Skeleton Office
A new college grad gets a job working for the secret branch of government that serves the supernatural community.
Light comedy.  Ecchi.  Probably heading towards romance.

Yachiru-san grows when praised
A monster girl is trying to overcome the poor image people have of her from old legends, but meets a guy who likes her the way she is: tall.
While it's ecchi, there's reasonable communication and expectation-setting between characters.  Way to go on the solid relationship, fetish manga.

Show Me Your Shark Teeth
Title is plot summary.
Seems a simple - though extremely specific - romcom about a sharptooth goth girl, though only one chapter so far.

Magical Girl and Narco Wars
An undercover cop teams up with a magical girl to take down drug dealers.
The premise of a stoic normal badass paired with a superpowered maniac who cheerfully slaughters people feels strangely familiar.  I've not seen these exact characters before, but could name a handful of manga that they could cut and paste into without a single change.  Having said that, a magical girl in civvies is a mild novelty.  Gore.

Pizza Witch
Title is plot summary.
Wacky comedy, perhaps just a touch too much so that makes it feel random.  It isn't, it just feels that way.

Below are those manga that I conditionally recommend.

Open Car Girls
College girls drive convertibles.
Ojou-sama in a Z?  Bless my heart.  Other than that, slice of life.  Wishing for deeper characters.

Office Lady of the Forest
A fairy gets reverse isekai'd to Japan and has to work in an office.
Not many chapters yet.  Art is a little rough.  Ecchi.

I Love You X Infinity
Married romcom.
It's cute, but it's a total slice of life.  Possibly autobiographical.

A Rather Large Couple
Two tall people share otaku interests.
It's an okay romance oneshot, but leaves me feeling unsatisfied.  I don't think there's enough potential here to be a series, either.

Oshiegoto - The Doujin Writer Teacher and the Genius Gal
Another of the growing genre about adult women bonding with teenage girls over yaoi manga.
Kind of implied to be romance, though it wasn’t yet clear when I departed.

Below are those manga that I do not recommend.

Yuri between a Masochist and a Sadist Who's Bad with Just Words
The introvert is the top and the extrovert is the bottom.  That's it, that's the plot.  2koma.

I've been playing Tokyo Extreme Racer lately. You drive around the Wangan highway and race people. I like the casual feel, how races happen on the spur of the moment, and the medium-deep car customization. There's a surprisingly deep character deck. It's still early access, though, so it has more stuff to add. I was hoping for a few more types of racing, in addition to highway battles.

I'm kinda surprised you're not checking out The Barbarian's Bride. I have heard about an *excessive* amount of thirst over the fact it's an actual older dude in the romance role.

My surprise comes from the fact it seems to have a lot of hype and you usually take a look if there's hype n_n

That one is two seasons from now

Derp. That would explain it.

That M2 Browning meme is spectacular! I found that way funnier than I probably should've.

I feel you on Ninja and Assassin. It kind of spent everything up front and is now suffering from being samey (though also turning up the fan service as if that’ll do the trick).

I’m curious how Kowloon will conclude as well, and it has me wondering if there’ll be another season. Though in a way it does seem like it might be hurtling toward a quick ending.

Bye Bye, Earth will be in my next blog since it’s over now, so I won’t go into depth here, but it sure did bury the lede until almost the end. And now that it’s finally understandable what’s happening, I have mixed feelings about the reveal. On the one hand, it makes logical sense. On the other, it’s kind of dumb and a few of the details don’t make sense. Like howBelle is shown getting there in the first place. It seems like other humans would have had the same situation, and I don’t understand why she was sent there the way she was, why other humans wouldn’t have been there anyway since it’s clearly habitable, and what Belle wants to accomplish now. And maybe how she wouldn’t feel even lonelier now that she knows the truth.
