More News On “Blood Less Vile,” “The Phoenix,” “A Pirate Planet,” and More! · 7:18pm June 6th

Well, it’s been a week without a lot said, hasn’t it. Monday’s Being a Better Writer post, and then I pretty much kept my head down through the week and just worked, worked, worked. Almost desperately, one could say.

The result? Well, A Pirate Planet‘s first draft has passed 70,000 words. We’ve had some proper battles and close calls for our protagonist, and she’s acting on her plan to save the day from the space pirates. Will it work? Or is there something more sinister going on? You’ll have to find out when the moment arrives.

So, what else is there to report on? Well … I may need to raise the pricing for Axtara – Magic and Mischief‘s paperback.

Yup, same cause as was for Banking and Finance and Shadow of an Empire. If the profit is low enough, bookstores won’t order it, and that’s not good for me. The price being set only a year ago does mean it’s not too far of a jump, but right now it’s looking like it needs to go from $17.99 to $19.99.

Side note: I’ve seen recently a number of books forgoing the “$X.99” approach altogether and just listing a solid dollar price. I know that conventional wisdom for the longest time has been that people are more likely to buy something that is a penny less because the dollar amount is less. But cultural shifts happen, and I’m suddenly wondering if these books being a penny more is reflective of that. Guess I need to take a look.

Anyway, as before I’ll let everyone know before a price-shift takes effect. Just know that I’m looking at the numbers and going “Sands … I can’t avoid this.”

Welcome to tariffs, everyone. The tax on the consumer.
