Even More Price Increases.. · 2:29pm May 3rd
Ugh, this was something I didn't expect to wake up to know so soon today, as of the start of May, Xbox has decided to copy Nintendo by using the tariff's as an excuse to raise their console prices over 80 dollars more, as well as their first party games expecting to be up to 80 dollars as well in the future by this holiday season, and.. there is just so much wrong with this decision that I need to discuss.
First off, why the hell are these guys thinking copying Nintendo with the price increases is a good idea for a console that's nearly 5 damn years old? The Series X and S released years ago, and deciding to increase the price of your console and systems now is extremely baffling, especially when it's so soon after the Switch 2 reveal, and the tariff price increase.
While they didn't state this is why they increased their prices.. we know this is exactly why, they are just using this as an excuse to charge more then for what the console or even the games themselves are worth. I can understand Nintendo doing this since the Switch 2 is their newest console, and their new first party game with Mario Kart world being $80 as a launch title, but thinking you can copy them and do the same years after these consoles and games have already come out is extremely stupid.
This is one thing that I was afraid of once Nintendo used the tariff's as an excuse to raise the Switch 2's accessory prices, while the console price itself wasn't raised.. at the moment, we were lucky they didn't for now, but Xbox trying to do this is just baffling to me. When one company makes a move that turns out well for them, others will try to copy it too( Even though the Switch 2 hasn't even released.)
I cannot for the life of me understand why they would think doing this for a console years after it's launch is a good idea, I get it came out during a really tough time for us all, but doing it now does not make any sense, this is pure greed if I've ever seen it. And what makes it worse is that most triple A games aren't even worth the price of 70-80 dollars. Street Fighter 6 for example just went from 70 to 40 dollars because of decreased value, so them thinking this is a good idea is awful.
I really hope this backfires on them and shows them that people won't just accept massive price increases like this for stuff they either already own, or were looking to get, this will just worsen the sales of their console's and games even more because of this insanely stupid move. I've only gotten Doom the Dark Ages recently because it was something I was really excited for, but I don't see myself getting anything more from them in the future because of this, unless they just take the L and lower things down to their normal prices.. which I highly doubt, things are just gonna go south for them the more this goes on.
As I said before, most triple A games aren't even worth the absurd price these days, I've been getting into a lot of Indie games that have so much more to offer, and I think in a future post, I'll go over games that I think you should all check out, some of which may be ones you haven't heard of before, and I think that these developers deserve tons of support, especially when these companies are making these insanely stupid choices. I hope you don't mind me letting you all know this, but I think it's important to get out since this is a bad sign for the gaming industry going forward, and if you don't really care for the price increases, that's completely okay, but for me and many other people, this is just gonna get worse and worse if this succeeds.
I know. I'm saving up for a Series X
