Ghostpunk Idea - Religions? · 4:32am May 1st
So, as some of you may remember, a while back I had an idea for something called Ghostpunk, the concept of a world powered by ghost energy. During this discussion, Screw had talked about how religion might actually be a major component in the genre.
Now while I don't agree with everything the Screw brought up, I actually do like the idea of religions, especially those tied to ghosts, the underworld, etc... as that could be really interesting.
The thing to note, is that my concept is that while the ghosts have been to the spiritual plane, they haven't actually made it to the Afterlife, as that is a barrier that once crossed none return. So, while ghosts might have opinions as to what awaits life after death, aside from the spiritual plane (which does have sort of an underworld like aspect, kind of like in Beetlejuice), it is all just their own speculations.
Regardless religion has grown in importance, both for those seeking to just bypass the spiritual plane (and thereby becoming a spirit/ghost) and going straight to the Afterlife or setting themselves up so that if they do become a ghost that maybe it won't be for too long and they can hopefully not be turned into a car battery.
Thus, I thought I would ask and see if you all had any ideas/suggestions for religions in a ghost powered society.
What does 'ghost powered' even mean? Do you imprison the ghosts in cylinders and force them to do work? Do they just naturally emanate energy that a proper converter system can turn into electricity?
Also, do ghosts pay taxes?
5843475 Essentially the ectoplasm they produce can be refined into a substance that now serves as a new power source. So, in many cases ghosts (typically malevolent spirits) will be captured in canisters and brought to the various power companies by exorcists for energy production.
I thought I had brought that up in the original blog... But maybe I didn't or forgot too.
I really like this concept, haven't heard of one like it. I am intrigued.
