MLP Glossary and word game companion · 10:33pm April 25th
I made a thing! Actually I made it a while ago, but I recently gave it an update so it's better now.
MLP Glossary* is a little web app which lets you look up concise definitions for things relating to the canon universes of MLP.
* I debated calling it "Pony Glossary", but I thought it might get confused with actual equine glossaries.
However, it's not simply an information tool - the intended purpose of the app is to act as a companion for custom MLP-related word games. It allows you to export customized wordlists for games such as the popular spytalking game Codenames, and the Pictionary-like skribbl.io, both of which are free online. I've tried it with both and it works pretty well!
Assassy Saddles, more like.
In addition, the app also provides a mode for creating a simple virtual card deck. This allows you to create things like randomized decks of characters, which are handy for some games. I've provided rulesets for some of the games that inspired this project, in particular "Pony Connections", a cozy little game created by a friend where players just try to find the best connections between two randomly-picked characters.
The glossary has a good selection of terms for G3, FiM, and Pony Life, and a semi-complete set for G5. I still need to complete the EqG set, and I haven't added G1 or the IDW comics yet (there can't be that many, right?).
I’m sure that’s just a bit and you’re well aware of the reality… but basically from a few months after they launched in November 2012 (I’d say in February 2013) through to when COVID pauses the release cycle by a few months, there were two issues every month (a regular and whatever side series was ongoing at the time). Plus occasional extra miniseries to briefly have three (FiENDship, the movie prequel, etc.) and the odd special album.
I’d say there’s thus easily over 200 issues in the FiM run, and those during the G5 era (some of them technically G4 comics) added another 50-odd. And I’d say if you start counting double-length issues as two (plus any others longer than a regular issue by the appropriate factor of that), we’re probably at about 300 comics, all told. So… yeah, lot to add! Though beyond Luna’s pet opossum Tibbles, I think you can count the things all but the most die hard fans remember (as far as new character or locales, like) on one hoof. Because we know most people don’t remember them, we don’t tend to for things like this. Fandom-wise subconscious group psychology, you might call it.
Dathaase is great, gotta say – last time it was just a cute novelty, but I better see its practical applications now. Hope you got some pleasure trawling through Pony Life to add all that info to this!
