Lieutenant Jolani Haynes, my brother, was half human and half earth pony. He went to the equestrian naval school, where he was squad leader in his class and passed all his grades with honors, which rivaled our father's. His future wife, Sofia, went to the same school and met my brother during German class. They hit it off well after graduation, both of them married and had two daughters. My brother was in the Royal Equestria Marines reserves when war broke out in 1914. His squad, the 1st Marine, fought the first battles of 1914. By late 1916, he was promoted to lieutenant after his commanding officer was killed in the final days of the Pomme operations. From 1917-1918, he led his men through the toughest battles the war threw at them. He was awarded the Victory Medal, the Celestia Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, and the pink heart of courage. After the war, he resumed his work as a DA investigator and helped me bring a long-overdue war criminal and murderer to justice
