Switch 2 Direct Thoughts and Hopes · 1:43am April 3rd
Hello everyone, I hope your all having a good day so far. So just earlier today by the time I'm making this, we've finally gotten a direct for the upcoming Switch 2 which is releasing in June of this year, and with what was shown off during that direct, I was just wanting to give my thoughts on what we can expect from it, and whether or not it's worth getting.
Alright, so let's get started with the game announcements that were the highlights, not only have we finally been shown the next Mario Kart Game, Mario Kart World finally, it's also going to be releasing alongside the Switch when it comes out, either separate or in a bundle, the Switch 2 itself will cost $450 or $500 with the Mario Kart bundled with it.
Now let's get something out of the way, I did honestly expect the price for this game to at least be as much as a Steam Deck even before this reveal, $450 to me seems like just the right amount for this console considering they'll likely make an OLED model soon enough that does cost as much as a regular PS5, I know some people are taking a big issue with this price tag, but honestly, I was expecting this, and depending on what other stuff will release with the Switch 2, whether or not it's worth it will be debatable.
But I honestly think that this is the best price tag they could give it since the PS5 has been overpriced for a lot of people, especially with the PS5 pro costing up to $700! The price for this console could've been much worse, and if it's about as much as a Steam Deck, I think it's something I'll start saving up to get since not only will the exclusives we get be something else like Mario Kart World, at least at this point and time, but it'll be cool getting to be able to wait for whatever else comes out on it that's worth the price range.
The thing I'm NOT excited for however, is the price on the actual games itself, Mario Kart World will be launching with the Switch 2 at, and I kid you not.. $80, this was something I was very afraid of, I knew Tears of the Kingdom being $70 would be concerning to some like most new games releasing at that price like Doom the Dark Ages, but if all future Switch 2 games will be releasing at that price, I think that will severely impact just how much people will want to get this console and the games that come with it because that could be overpriced for one single game for a lot of people.
if the upcoming GTA 6 really is gonna launch at $100 dollars like a lot of people are theorizing, this is not gonna be a good sign for the gaming industry going forward, because if games become this overpriced, and the company's who make them don't have the game be worth the absurd price, it'll be an extremely bad sign in terms of how it'll impact their own sales going forward.
It'll likely say that we should just stick to the games or systems we already have, and will likely wait for whenever their on discount, because $80 dollars for a single game, and then multiple Switch 2 games down the line will really make it debatable whether or not it's worth it, it'll likely result in people only getting the Switch 2 since it not only will be backwards compatible with just about all the games on the last Switch, but stick to getting Indie Games that can offer much more at a much lower price like Hollow Knight, Hades 1 and 2, and other versions of the games they already own that's on the Switch 2, that price range is incredibly ridiculous to a lot of people, and I can see why this would not have people wanting to get it.
But if we get more games like Mario Kart World for the Switch 2, and even newer Zelda games that will be even bigger then the last few, then maybe that price may be worth it, I just think that for the games price in particular, this is not a good sign for the future, and if no one wants to get the Switch 2 at that price and either wait for a Discount, or stick to what they already have, that's completely okay, but I just hope in the future, games start having a price that's worth the kind of game we're getting, because it'll just end up being a waste of money if we don't like it.
But let's move on from that now, sorry I went on about that for a bit, but I just wanted to get those important thoughts out of the way first, but now let's move onto the actual games that were shown off for the Switch 2, and what people are most excited for, as well as how certain other games will be ported over to Switch 2 because it's hardware is now strong enough to hopefully run them.
Those were all some of the games that were highlighted the most during the Nintendo Direct, as well as what other games will come over from PC or other Consoles over to this one, now I for one have to say that the ones that excite me the most are Mario Kart obviously, the new Dynasty Warrior's styled Zelda game that is based on Tears of the Kingdom, which only makes sense to make since Age of the Calamity did the same thing for Breath of the Wild, and the new Donkey Kong game.
Mario Kart World looks amazing to me, and I'm very excited to see just what we'll be getting, it's been over 11 years since Mario Kart 8, and if you don't count the Deluxe edition and the DLC courses, this is the first new Mainline Mario Kart game we've gotten in over a decade, and I'm really hoping this game will be worth the price, and given it may be an Open World Mario Kart, this is gonna be an interesting game for the series for sure.
While Duskbloods does look interesting and could be a really great technical showcase for what the Switch 2 is capable of, I'm gonna wait for it to release to give more of my thoughts on it.
But moving onto the new Donkey Kong game, I think it's really cool seeing DK is finally getting a new 3d platformer after such a long time, this game is looking to be developed by the same team who made Mario Odyssey, which is one of my favorite Switch games, and this looks like a ton of fun with how you can break the environment to continue your progress, while I am trying to get used to the new DK design, I think I'll get used to it later on.
The new Kirby game looks like a lot of fun, I sadly never got to play the original Air Ride due to not having a Gamecube sometime ago, but this new game looks very fun, and since it's directed by Sakurai himself, it'll probably be a very fun game to play. While the new story mode to Kirby and the Forgotten Land looks really fun too, It's gonna be a while before we get either of them, but I will say I am very excited for just about all of these games that were shown off today.
But let's move onto the other games that will be coming to the Switch 2, games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Elden Ring coming to Switch 2 are very surprising, but I'm glad their coming over to the Switch 2, and not released on the first Switch since the size of these games and how technically advanced they were would likely have held them back, but it'll be cool seeing them come to Switch 2, and while I already prefer to play them on PC, the Switch 2 may be a good alternative, it all depends on what it's like when it releases though, so let's all just hope for the best for these games when they release. While the Indie games releasing on Switch 2 will likely run just as great as they do on PC like Hollow Knight and other Indie Games, I hope certain ones do come to the Switch 1 since they likely can be run on that console.
I know I didn't talk about some stuff like the Switch 2 version of Zelda BOTW and TOTK, but there wasn't much to say aside from some enhanced visuals and frame rates, along with the addition of some guides to the Nintendo app and additional lore logs, but while they do look really good, I'm gonna wait for whatever new Zelda game releases after Age of Imprisonment.
I'm just very glad that pretty much all the games we got on our first Switch will be able to be ported over to this one, both physical and digital games, and it'll likely be one of the reasons for people to get the Switch 2 since certain ports that don't run well on the first Switch, will likely run how they should on this console.
But that's all I have to say for this reveal and what will be coming in the future, while I know I may have gone on about the prices for too long, i just thought it was important to bring them up since it'll be a big debate online up to release, and I just wanted to give my thoughts on the matter, so I hope what I said doesn't upset anyone.
The exclusives releasing for the Switch 2 look really fun so far, and the games being ported over to the console looks like they may not be held back by the original Switch's hardware, I just hope when we get more ports like FF7 remake or Elden Ring, they'll be games that run well and don't feel like a worse version to play like a lot of ports on the first Switch.
I hope this was an interesting thing for you all to see, while I'm still cautious about whether or not this console is worth it since it's only just been revealed, hopefully in the future, we'll get more games that are worth it, but even if the games are price at 80, there will at least be other much cheaper games we could get for it, while Nintendo has tons of issues as a company and how they run things outside of their games, these games have me interested to see what the future holds, and while the Switch 1 had a really great run, we're now moving onto a new era, and I hope the Switch 2 delivers since it'll likely be very debatable for a long time.
Please feel free to let me know what games your looking forward to, or what you thought about this full reveal and direct as a whole. It's gonna be an interesting wait for the launch of the console, and I hope you all didn't mind me talking about this today, thank you all for hearing me out, and hope you have a good day!
Mario kart world looks amazing!
Donkey Kong Bananza looks sick!
Pokemon Z-A looks hype as ever!
And both Kirby games look incredible!
What a way to start off the switch 2!
$80 for digital, $90 for physical.

Those prices alone are just criminal, I can easily see Nintendo getting a lot of backlash from this to the point they'll have to cut down the prices to at least 70, it's bad enough the increased tax prices are making us pay more for these, the new Doom game costed me 75 because of the tax price, and I highly doubt kids parents will want to get their kids a new console that costs at most 500 with Mario Kart bundled with it, Nintendo is gonna face severe backlash for this probably, and what makes it worse is that other company's will likely start trying this now without fear since Nintendo is doing it now, which will only make the gaming market even more hard for both the companies games and how well they sell, as well as the consumer and if they want to get the games or not.

And those new game keys that some might have those that you have go to the Internet and download the game and not the cartridge, so we have to check each game to see if there's a cartridge in them.

Yeah, it's really ridiculous, this is probably gonna be the most controversial thing about the Switch 2 for a while, unless Nintendo actually listens to the backlash and lowers the prices, this will be a bad standard for the video game medium going forward, it'll severely impact their sales, and make people just want to stick to the first Switch and what they already have.
5839313
I hate to say it, and it's going to be hard for people, we all have to boycott the Switch 2 unless they change their ways like getting rid of the game keys, and have all the games have cartridges, and make the games back to $60.
Not gonna lie, I'm gonna hold out for a while at getting the S2 cause of these prices, especially the games. We'll see if the big N will adjust them somewhat later.
And now Nintendo pulled preorders for S2 cause they didn't take into account the tariffs that will be in place during launch day, doesn't look good for big N right now!

What's worse is that I've heard they may be wanting to RAISE the prices because of this! That is the worst possible move they could make regarding this situation, if they want this console to sell well, they shouldn't be overcharging their consumers for this much! If this is the direction the Switch 2 is going in, it will not sell well, I can see that coming from a mile away, and any good will I had for this system is currently ruined because of these prices, unless Nintendo sees that, this will not end well for them.

Kinda reminds me of when the original PS3 launched at a whooping $599 cause Sony thought people would pay it willingly........you know how well that went!
5839482
Really hope Nintendo faces karma for these overcharging prices, because they likely will if the Switch 2 is raised an extra hundred dollars, and bundling that with MK World will only mean the game will sell even less, they need to treat their consumers and the gaming market with respect, because decisions like these show they clearly don't. ( are you having trouble sending messages too? Because I keep getting a stupid request forbidden message whenever I try sending things, or even to write. if your having trouble, refresh quickly, it's worked for me.)
5839486
I did get a few of those on mobile, not sure why!
As for S2 I'm gonna have to wait cause no way I'm shelling out $600 - $700 for it!

Absolutely, I ain't getting a console that costs just as much as a PS5 pro, I was skeptical about getting the Switch 2 since 450 seemed predictable, but if they raise the price to 550 to 600 with MK bundled, I'm not getting it. And they need to see that increasing these prices will not do well for them.
