It's so funny that AO3 still says it's in beta. What does that even mean at this point?

Each year you are half-way closer to it.
This is the age of software we live in
maybe it means they'll ask Knighty for some pointers on a more modern website?

...I'm not sure that's how it works, but I'll take it! Halfway there!

But it's been in beta for what, 16ish years now? Doesn't that predate this age of software? 🤔

Unfortunately they will have to ignore those tips because it seems like half the site is hard coded and they can't be bothered to change it. Hell, I can't remember any real updates outside of stopping tag spam in the past several years.

...They... stopped tag spam?

Hilarious story. Last year or so, this one guy realized there was no limit to tagging, so he made this monstrous multi-chapter mega-crossover (I don't know if they actually crossover'd with so many things, but it was just tagged it that way), and also tagged theoretically every random item or thought in the story or just frankly crossed his mind at some point. On top of extremely frequent updates, this meant the front page of many fandoms had this one random mega-fic with thousands of tags that took several pages to scroll past. It got so bad some people's phones lagged trying to load in. Userscripts were made to hide tags so people could actually scroll past it in a reasonable amount of time.
It raised such a stink across so many communities ao3 was forced to step in and limit tags to something like 70. Which is still a lot of tags, don't get me wrong. But it is less tags than 10000

...Incredible
I very much enjoyed that story. Just... Wow.
