Zelda Story First Look · 1:46pm March 21st
Hey everyone, I hope your all doing well so far today, I was just wanting to share with you all the first chapter of a Zelda Breath of the Wild story that I'm gonna be doing working on soon once I have more time, I'll go more detail into it just down below, but I hope a story like this sounds interesting.
The main plot of it is that Spike and Smolder awaken within the Shrine of Resurrection within the Kingdom Hyrule after a century, and a devastating battle that left them on the verge of death, after awakening from the shrine, they find themselves alongside Link on the Great Plateau, and with the help of an old man, who is the former king of Hyrule, the three of them set out across Hyrule to stop the Calamity Ganon, uncover the truth behind their past, and save Hyrule from destruction.
I've had a story like this planned out for a long time, but I wanted to get enough experience with writing before tackling something as huge as Breath of the Wild, and I just wanted to try and get enough experience to make it the best it can be.
I know I just posted a Mario Galaxy story recently, but I thought I could post this to help make up for my lack of updates recently, I'm still busy taking care of stuff at Grandma's, and it's only when it's really early in the morning, or around 7 to 8 at night is when I get back can I work on things again, and I have been trying my best to balance things out, but by Sunday I should be able to update regularly again, just thought it was best to let you know.
I'll fully post this story when I have more room to work on my other stories, I'm gonna try getting some other smaller stories done first before I move onto a huge one like this, as well as my other larger stories, including other ones I haven't posted yet either, so I hope you like the first look of this story here.
But with that said, I was hoping to ask for help regarding what I could call the story, I was thinking of calling it the Heroes of The Wild, but I felt like that doesn't fit right, if any of you have ideas for a title for it, feel free to let me know, and I'll give you a shoutout in the Author's Notes whenever I post the story.
But that's all I have to say for now, hope you like this first look, and let me know your thoughts below!
The only thing that could be felt around was a void of darkness that gave an unsettling feeling as the feeling of consciousness begins to slowly come back, while a slight pain could be felt upon small but slow breathing within an unknown place, the only thing that could be seen, and felt, was nothing but darkness.
But, that's when something strange started to be seen, a strange, powerful, golden light began appearing within the void, being the only thing that could be seen within the void, a small groan of pain could be heard after seeing it, and the one seeing it, felt both confused, scared, and some slight sense of pain as their body began to shift.
"Open your eyes..." A strange voice spoke while another voice groaned weakly upon hearing it.
"Wh.. what..?" Another voice asked painfully while a slight twitch could be felt from it's hand, and while some pain could still be felt, likely from either a battle, or from how long they've been here, something began to shift..
"Open your eyes." The voice said more clearly as the light began to take over their vision, and the feeling of consciousness began to take over them again after an unknown amount of time.
A strange blue light could be seen as their eyes finally begin to open, while faint at first, it became more clear as there seemed to be a strange device above them, almost like it was what was keeping them contained here.
"W.. where.. am.. I?" A voice asked weakly while slow breathing could be felt from him, and two other soft groans could be heard next to him while they began to wake up too.
"Open your eyes." The voice spoke once again as 3 strange individuals are shown within 3 strange beds filled with blue water that were back against eachother.
"Open your eyes." The voice said one last time again while the 3 individuals are revealed, one was a young looking boy with long hair and a ponytail while completely shirtless, but had a body that showed scars from previous battle's long ago.
And just besides him, were two creatures that looked like dragons, one of which was a dragon that was a bit taller then the boy, had dark purple scales and a spiked tip on the tail, with large emerald colored eyes, and his body had even more scars then the boy's, with one going across his left eye, another with 3 marks across his chest, and more across his arms and legs that still had some pain felt in them even as he woke up.
And the other dragon was a slightly shorter but young looking dragoness who had orange scales, a yellow underbelly and horns, with a pink hairline that went down her spine with a small leaf like tail at the end, while her body didn't show as many scars as the other two, she still had some on her sides and back, even if it didn't hurt as much as the other dragons, they still felt some slight pain after finally waking up in an unknown place, the two dragons did have wings on their backs likely just because of their age, but they couldn't even feel them due to what's happening at the moment.
"Ugh.. how.. long was I out?" The dragoness asked weakly while she started to feel her body move as the water below them was being drained.
"Wake up, Link, Spike, and Smolder..." The voice said calmly again while the other dragon groaned while they all could hear eachother fully, and after they started to lift their backs up from the strange beds they were in, they looked behind eachother and saw they all were against eachother like something placed them there.
"W.. who are you guys?" The dragon asked while he coughed a bit upon feeling his body move, it felt incredibly stiff, and whatever the reason was for why their here, it wasn't without a clear purpose.
"Uh.. my name is.. Smolder.. I think.. that's what it feels like anyways. Do you know your own name?" Smolder asked as she started to climb out of the bed as the three of them got onto their feet, all looking very confused about where they even were.
"It's.. Spike, that's.. the only thing.. I can remember." Spike said as he held his head and groaned a bit more while Smolder looked at the boy who was likely called Link after what they heard from that voice.
"And I take it your.. Link right? Your the only other person here, at least from what we know. Are you guys okay?" Smolder asked with a worried look while they both looked at eachother, and the boy found them a bit strange by their appearance.
The boy known as Link merely nodded his head to confirm it, and started using his hands to communicate with them through sign language which they could still somehow understand, and he was asking them what they are, and why their here.
"I honestly don't even know what we are, or what this place is, I can't remember anything. Can you?" Smolder asked again while looking at them, and neither of them had a clue as to why their here.
"No, my mind is completely blank, I can't recall anything, what are we supposed to do here?" Spike asked as they were slowly starting to move while their bodies still felt stiff, and Smolder soon looked at Spike, and then saw the numerous scars across him that made her very worried.
"Whoa, what happened to you? Your body is covered in scars dude." Smolder asked while Link looked at Spike again, and they both saw he had more scars then either of them, while Link was a close second, whatever Spike went through may have been worse.
"I just said, I don't remember. But we won't find out anything by staying here. I think it's best we try to find out where we are." Spike replied while looking at Link who agreed with that suggestion.
"Right, sorry. But how do we even get out of this place?" Smolder asked while they looked around for a way out of here.
And that's when they noticed a strange device within a pedestal near a door, it just screamed to them that they had to investigate it, and after looking at eachother, and nodding with agreement, the trio slowly made their way to it to see what it is.
Link was the first one to take a closer look at it, but as he got closer, the thing suddenly moved which made them jump a bit, and a strange device was presented to them that looked like a tablet of sorts, but also looked just as advanced as the rest of the tech within this place.
"That is a Sheikah Slate, take it. It will help guide the three of you after your long slumber." The voice instructed while they were surprised hearing it again, and looked around to see where it came from.
"Um.. okay? Thank you strange ominous voice.." Smolder said sarcastically while Spike crossed his arms as Link took the device.
"Does that voice sound familiar to either of you guys?" Spike questioned again which only resulted in another nod in response.
"No, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who can hear it, I thought I was going crazy for a moment." Smolder replied with relief while they looked at Link who kept staring at the Sheikah Slate strangely.
But after a few seconds, the device suddenly powered on and made a strange sound, and as if that triggered something, the pedestal it was in suddenly began to shift before pressing down onto itself, and the door just ahead of them began to open deeper into this shrine.
"I think it's best you hold onto that thing for now Link, you seem to know what your doing with it." Spike suggested which sounded good to him, and he simply put the thing on a spare satchel he had.
"Come on, let's see what's at the end of this tunnel." Spike said as they slowly made their way through it while looking around to take in the sights.
This place looked to be incredibly ancient, with technology that looked both incredibly advanced, yet magical in some way, a strange blue light could be seen coming from it as multiple dots went along the walls, almost like they were constellations in some way, it was clearly designed for a special purpose in mind, likely to heal people like them after a bad battle, at least from what they currently know.
And as they walked through the place, they saw a couple chests nearby that looked very old and rusty, but could still be opened if they wanted to.
"Wonder what's in here?" Spike asked while Link went up to it to open it, and he simply kicked the thing with his foot which resulted in him wincing with pain while he felt like he stubbed his toe just from doing it, while it made Smolder chuckle a bit seeing it, the chest suddenly opened just like that which surprised her.
"Really? No locks or anything? Talk about convenient." Smolder said while Link felt the pain go away, and he and Spike looked into it to see what's inside.
"There's nothing much in here, only a few spare shirts that look like they could fall apart if we're not careful, they look like they've withered away with time." Spike said as he pulled a few shirts out for them, and while Link took one without hesitation to cover his scarred upper body, Smolder found it a bit strange seeing they were seemingly designed with them in mind.
"Don't you find it strange that these shirts look to be made for us specifically? Did someone place us here on purpose?" Smolder questioned again while Spike put the shirt he got on which was nothing more then a short sleeved shirt with a green color with straps to keep it together.
"Of course we do, but we won't find out by staying here, we need to find a way out of this place." Spike said as Link looked at another chest nearby which gave him a similar idea, and after taking a look at it, he opened it up like before, and this time there were a few spare pairs of pants that could fit them even if their age definitely shows.
Link made a small grunt noise to get their attention, and Spike and Smolder suddenly had two pairs thrown to them while he took the last one, and while they both found it confusing, it was best they have something warm to wear if their in someplace cold.
"It's better then nothing I guess." Spike said as they took a moment to put them on, and while they felt stiff to even wear, they did provide some comfort after putting them on.
"This feels nice in some way I'll admit." Smolder said while Link nodded in agreement after they had at least something to wear before going out there.
And after seeing another large door nearby, with another pedestal that was likely meant for the Sheikah Slate, the three of them quickly walked up to it to see what's on the other side.
"Hold the Sheikah Slate up to the pedestal, that will show you three the way." The voice suddenly instructed again which caught them off guard for a moment, but they calmed down as soon as the voice faded away again which only left them more confused.
"Who even is that speaking to us?" Spike questioned again while Link shook his head, not knowing either.
"Well, best to follow her advise, you know what to do Link." Smolder said with a more serious look while Link took out the Sheikah Slate again, and like he was told, he held the slate over the pedestal which made it turn from an orange color to a blue one upon being scanned by the pedestal.
And just like with the other door, the pedestal activated a trigger somewhere in here, and just in front of them, they saw the large door in front of them begin to slowly rise up, with a blinding light being seen that made them cover their eyes as it felt like years since they saw something like that.
"Link, Spike, Smolder. You three are the light, our light, that must shine upon Hyrule once again, now go." The voice instructed again while they all felt the light coming into focus more, and they saw a way out of here just beyond a small ledge they could climb over.
"Hyrule? Is that where we are?" Spike questioned again while Smolder shrugged her shoulders, finding it just as confusing as he does.
"Might as well be, you ready to get out of here guys?" Smolder asked while looking at them once again, and after Link made another small grunt to confirm it, he started to move ahead first with the two of them following behind.
Spike tried taking in where they were as much as he could with the time they had, he couldn't remember a single thing other then his name, while the name Hyrule does sound familiar, he can't remember anything else, not even the people who are with him, but if they have to work together to figure out what's going on, it's best he does what he can to help the group.
They quickly climbed over the ledge to make it towards the end of the tunnel that was in front of them, and as they were stepping into the light, the sounds of birds chirping and crickets could be heard as they feel the stone floor give way to soft grass that was overtaking the landscape.
But as the three of them emerged out of the shrine, they ran to a cliffside that was just ahead of them so they can see where they were, but as they reached they end, they saw an extremely amazing sight.
They were greeted with a massive place that expanded on for hundreds of miles across this land, grassy fields, a snowy mountain, and even a volcano on another side of the land could be seen all together, and at the center of it all, was a huge, ancient castle that looked to be dormant, having some strange pillars that surrounded it like it was meant to hold something.
The three of them were amazed with the sight in front of them, finding it to be the most beautiful view they've seen.. mainly because it's the only view they've seen up till now, where they were was clearly a massive place, and just from looking around here, they had no idea where to even start.
"Wow.. this place looks extremely old, do you think there's anyone around who can help us?" Smolder asked while looking at Link and Spike for an answer.
And Link was able to answer that after taking notice of a strange figure nearby a small ledge near a very large but run down temple that looked abandoned, and like no one had been there in years, possibly even decades. After taking notice of him, Link pointed to where they could go next which got their attention.
"You think that old man can help?" Spike asked curiously while they started to calmly walk down the path to see what they can learn.
"Let's hope so." Smolder replied while Link walked besides them in case they ran into anything dangerous.
Spike held the side of his chest again after feeling a bit more pain again, while the rest of his body feels alright, he feels some pain from the scars on his side that made it a bit hard to move, but it could possibly be from how stiff he feels after a long slumber, how long he knows is still a mystery, but he just hoped this figure could give answers.
The three of them walked up to an old looking man who was wearing a hood, and carrying nothing more then a small axe with him for possible hunting, he had a few apples next to him for food, and was roasting one currently like he was prepping a meal.
"Um.. excuse me, can you please help us?" Spike asked nervously while the old man looked up at them, and was really surprised to see three figures like them here.
"Well, aren't you three an interesting sight? I haven't seen anyone here in quite some time." The old man replied while looking very interested with Spike in particular, and taking in the scars he has.
"Hmm.. you've been through some tough battles, I can see that already, but never mind that. What brings you three here to this place?" He asked again while the three of them found this all really confusing.
Link made another hand gesture again to ask who he is, and where they were, and he was able to understand what he was saying thanks to experience.
"I'll spare you all my life story, I am but an old fool who has lived here alone for a very long time. This place is known as the Great Plateau, and according to legend, it is the birthplace of the entire Kingdom of Hyrule. " The old man answered before he started to stand up, taking a small lantern he had with him, and soon looking towards the large temple that was nearby.
"That temple you see there, long ago, it was the sight of many ceremonies. But ever since the decline of the kingdom 100 years ago, it has been abandoned, and is in a state of decay." The man said regretfully while looking at them again with a somber look.
"Yet it's become another forgotten entity, and is a mere ghost of it's former self, just like so many other sacred places within this kingdom.." He said somberly while they felt some regret hearing that news.
"Really? What exactly happened here? Why was this place abandoned?" Smolder asked with concern while crossing her arms again.
"That is something I will leave you three to figure out, it's best you explore around for a while to see what you can find, but be careful, there are Bokoblins and maybe some Lizalfos nearby, just because no Hylian is here, doesn't mean there are monsters roaming around the place." He warned again which concerned them a bit more.
"Monsters? Here?" Spike asked with worry while they looked around for any signs of them, but didn't see any at the moment which was good to see.
"Don't worry, we'll be careful, hope to see you later." Smolder replied while she helped Link move down the path while trying to figure out where to go next.
"Oh I believe we will madam." He said politely as they all left to figure out what to do, and the three of them sighed with worry on where to go since they still know little to nothing about this place.
"Alright, so were in this really old place called Hyrule, with no one but that old man living here, and unless he knows more that can help us, we're all stuck in a corner here now." Spike said with worry while Smolder felt a bit frustrated while not remembering anything.
"I still don't understand, why can't I remember a thing about our past? If we all were in that strange place together, you'd think we'd at least know about why were were there, or.. what we even are!" Smolder said with frustration while looking at their appearances, and Spike felt just as upset as her.
"Believe me, I know how that is, I don't even know how to move these.. wings on my back." Spike said as he tried stretching himself a bit to loosen up a bit, and despite all of that, they still didn't know where to go.
Link hummed to himself as he tried figuring something out since their all stuck at the moment, but just as they sighed with defeat, they suddenly began to hear something again which was coming from all around them.
"Link.. Spike... Smolder..." The voice said again which got their attention, and they tried looking around for where it's coming from.
"Where are you?" Spike thought to himself while he had his guard up in case anything happened.
"In order to find out where to go, head to the map marked on the Sheikah Slate, that will bring you one step closer to finding out what's going on." The voice instructed again before fading away once more.
And at that moment, the Sheikah Slate beeped again, and as Link took it out to try and see if there was a map, being greeted with nothing, a single yellow dot appeared on it, looking to be just down the path near a pile of rubble that was blocked off from something.
"Now isn't that convenient huh?" Spike asked again which Smolder shrugged off again.
"At least we have an idea on where to go, you wanna see what's there?" Smolder asked the group again who didn't have any objections, and they all headed to where the dot was located in order to continue forward.
They made their way through a small path that was broken down and lead into another small field nearby, but just in the distance, they could see a strange pillar was poking out of the rocks at the very end of the path, and knew that's where they needed to go.
As they continued to look around for more to see, they could see some strange, very old machines broken down and looked completely decayed, unable to ever be repaired, they had multiple legs like they were a spider, and a single eye in the center that could rotate around, if it were still functional.
Everything here just felt old and forgotten, like nothing here was could recover from whatever happened so long ago, while that was mainly what they could see now, maybe beyond where they were, there may be someone out there who could help.
The three of them kept moving down the path until they came to a stop after nearly getting to where they needed to be, and the reason why was that as they made it to the strange structure, three strange pig monsters with hand made shields, weapons, and even bows and arrows, had just noticed them as they approached, and they quickly got up and roared at them like they were ready for a fight.
"Guess these were the monsters that old man warned us about!" Spike shouted as they all stopped in place while the monsters charged at them, and Smolder looked towards the one aiming a bow and arrow at them that was the farthest away.
"Look out!" Smolder screamed while she rolled out of the way from an arrow just as it pierced the ground, and Spike growled with anger while Link saw a nearby stick on the ground, and despite it being very small and fragile, he picked it up and tried to use it as a weapon against these monsters.
"A stick? Really? What's a stick gonna do Link?" Smolder asked with confusion while Link made a battle cry and ran towards the monster in front of him, while it tried blocking an attack with his shield, Link did a leg sweep and threw it into the air for a short moment, and he used that time to slam the stick down on it's face which broke after a few hits, but in return had disarmed the monster from it's weapon, and he then used that to finish the monster off, and as he delt the final blow, the monster made a painful scream before it's body was covered in darkness, and suddenly exploded in a strange cloud before vanishing completely, leaving only a few parts of it behind.
Smolder was really caught off guard by Link's takedown of that beast, and while looking at Spike, she saw he was ducking under more multiple swings from that beast to avoid being hurt, and after dodging one more hit, Spike took the monsters arm and twisted it before headbutting it in the face, and kicking the monster into the way of another arrow shot which took it down upon contact.
"We may not know much about where we are, but we can still defend ourselves!" Spike shouted before he kicked the other monster with the arrow down the ledge, and Smolder finished that last monster off by ripping the bow and arrow out, and despite them just waking up, they still somehow had skills in fighting, but as long as it helps them survive, it'll be a great help.
Smolder quickly drew the arrow and aimed it at the monster before shooting directly at it, and slaying the beast right there, and like the other ones, it exploded in a strange cloud once it was done with, and they all sighed together after having survived that encounter.
"Well, at least we'll have something to defend ourselves.. for now at least, these things are really weak, and they'll likely break apart after too many hits with them." Smolder said as she looked at her bow, and could see she could use it for a b it longer before needing to find a new one.
Link could see that was obvious based on what he just used, while it was a stick, with how ancient this place was, a lot of the weapons here were likely very weak, and whatever they find here, they'll need to be careful with what they use.
"Let's just be sure to make these last while we can, if there are any more we can carry, let's make sure to put them to use." Spike replied before he put the shield on his back in case he needs it again, while Link and Smolder did the same with their respective weapons, while they'll obviously have to find more of these types in the future, it's best to carry these around for now.
"Alright, now that, that's done.. let's see what this structure has." Smolder said as they turned to the structure that was just in front of them now.
There was a small opening that they could squeeze through to see what's inside, and after hoping down a small ledge, they saw what looked like another pedestal within the very center of it.
"What's this doing here?" Spike asked again while they approached it, and while Link took out the slate again to see what will happen.
"You ready for this?" Smolder asked one last time while looking confident about this, and without hesitation, Link placed the slate in the pedestal, and it began to move around before lowering in on itself, and finally activating.
"Sheikah Tower activated, watch out for falling rocks." A strange voice suddenly spoke which caught them all of guard.
"Wait, what?!" Spike asked with surprise before a loud rumble suddenly began to be felt around them, but while it started off small, it quickly began to become far more violent which knocked them off their feet while they screamed from being knocked down.
Within the forest areas nearby, and even all around the kingdom, the ground suddenly began to shake violently while all the residents that still remained were starting to panic from the sudden earthquake, the monsters who were at their own camps were flailing around with surprise, and birds were flying away out of fear as the ground was shaking even more by the second.
And from within the ground, the structure the three of them were on suddenly burst out of the ground, and began rising high into the air as it was revealed they were standing on a really large ancient tower that was built long ago.
Even in other parts of the kingdom, within snowy mountains, tropical jungles, and even on the side of the volcano and other areas all around the place, dozens of towers all rose from the ground, like they were all activated too once they triggered this one, they all rose high above most of what was around them, and as they finally came to a stop, the ground stopped shaking, and everything returned to normal again, but left the residents around the areas spooked on what had just happened.
Spike, Smolder and Link all groaned as they were getting up from that huge earthquake, but as they got up, their eyes widened with surprise as they now saw a massive view in front of them, they were high in the air at this point, and could see the castle directly in front of them from a great distance.
"Whoa, how did that even happen?" Spike asked while he looked around the area, and even from this distance, he saw multiple towers around the whole kingdom rose from the ground just like this one.
"Now this is something else.." Smolder said with fascination while Link still didn't say a word even after all of that.
"Distilling Local information, for the Great Plateau Tower." The device spoke again while they looked at it with surprise, and just above them, they saw a strange pillar begin to glow blue while strange symbols could be seen flowing down directly to the tip of it, and it somehow formed into a single drop of water that fell right onto the tablet, and once it was splashed all over it, making strange symbols float around them again, they saw something appear on the slate.
On the slate itself, they saw what looked to be a map of the area their on appear on the screen which could help them move around the place, while it was very small compared to the rest of the land they were in, it at least gave them some sense of direction.
"Regional map extracted." The machine spoke again before the slate was detached from the pedestal, and Link took it once again after they got what they needed here.
"Well.. at least we have a map now." Spike said while still looking concerned about what to do.
But as if all of this wasn't worrying enough, they began to hear the strange voice again from behind them, as if it was calling out to them from somewhere.
"Remember..." The voice spoke once again which made them all turn around to the huge castle in the distance, and they saw a powerful golden light coming from it.
"Try, try to remember.." The voice said in an almost desperate tone while the three of them were still confused on what it was. But their confusion turned to fear again as they felt the ground shake again, and to their shock and fear, they saw a large barrier of a black and red substance forming around the pillars, with an enormous creature appearing from within the castle.
"What in the name of..?" Spike asked with horror while the pillars were lighting up, almost like they were activated along with everything else they've seen at the moment.
"You three have all been asleep, for the past 100 years." The voice informed which completely shocked the three of them upon hearing it, but it only got worse as the beast rose from the castle, like it was trying to free itself from something containing it.
"The beast.. when it regains it's true power, this world will face it's end." The voice said with fear as they all backed up from the sight of a monster that was unlike anything they've ever seen, even if they don't' remember anything now, this monster, was one of the most horrifying things they've ever seen.
It made a loud ferocious roar that echoed through the entire kingdom which sent chills down their spines, and the golden light shinned brighter as it tried keeping it contained in the castle, and they were all left extremely scared to see such a monster moments ago.
"Even from this place, I have been praying for the day you three awakened once again.." The voice said with a somber tone while the three of them looked at eachother with surprise for what they just witnessed.
"The three of you must hurry.. before it's too late.." The voice said with fear before it faded away again, leaving them all to take in the dreadful sight..
But, within an ocean far off from the kingdom, deep within it's waters, fish were seen swimming around near the bottom of it, minding their own business, as everything seemed quiet and with not much to talk about, deep within the darkness, something began to stir.
A loud growl could be heard while the entire area begins to shake around it, scaring away any creature near it, and as a loud growl could be heard within the ocean, a single, enormous, emerald green eye opened up after sensing something far away..
Looks like Ganondorf has a friend.
I wonder if Spike's love interest will be Zelda ( I love botw Zelda and totk Zelda, they have less bitchy attitude in their voice), urbosa or mipha.

Maybe it could be Mipha if she was still alive, but I don't really plan on having a love interest for either Spike or Smolder in either of these games, maybe TOTK at some point, but I don't have any intentions of making Zelda a love interest for Spike.
