So … What Now? · 8:17pm March 20th

Hello readers! The news is a little slow this week, but there’s still a small bit to talk about. First the big news.

Yes, the draft for Axtara – Armies and Accounting is complete. I’ve removed it from the “Currently Writing” part of the Projects tab, and placed it under the “Editing” portion. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s being edited right away. No, I do the “let it bake” thing and set it aside for a time. But it is done. The rewrite of the opening chapters knocked a few thousand words off of the total, too. Which is good, because that initial length of 255,000 words was definitely a little long for what I had planned.

Don’t get me wrong, I know you guys will love more Axtara, I just didn’t think it needed to be that long. When the pre-Alpha arrives I’ll definitely be deploying my trimming scissors. I think there are some parts I can cut that’ll bring it down a little further.

It’ll still definitely be the longest Axtara book by a fair amount, however. Granted, once you readers do get your claws or hands on it I think you’ll see why. A cross-continent journey to save Elnacier? Passing through multiple kingdoms we’ve only previously heard in name?

Yeah, it was bound to be a little lengthy. Even with wings, you can’t just walk into Mordor. It’s a journey.

With that done, however, my attention has shifted towards editing and responding to Alpha Reader feedback on the upcoming Jacob Rocke novel. Still weighing names—Cold Fall? Cold Blood? Southern Hunt?—but for the most part my focus is on just editing: cleaning, rewriting, cutting, clarifying, and all that other fun Alpha stuff.

Hell ya. You got my money when it publishes. Or at least whatevers left over after Amazon takes their chunk.

Perhaps I missed the last news about it, but what about Dusk Guard?

The Dusk Guard's next entry is in the "when I can afford to" box. At the moment, my financial situation is not exactly great, and stories like the Dusk Guard, while a lot of fun, don't contribute at all to my income. So until my situation is more financially stable, Fanfiction is just going to have to be on hold. It's unfortunate, but when it comes to the choice of spending thousands of hours on something, the thing that contributes to my income is going to win out.
