News – Axtara 3 Opening Rewrite, Polls, and Other Errata · 8:23pm March 7th
Hello readers! Another week comes to its close, and with it, we’ve got more news to deliver. Not a lot, so you should be able to read through things pretty quickly, but it will keep you up to date on things.
First up, Axtara 3 – Armies and Accounting draft news! This week I rewrote half of the opening chapters that I wished to rewrite, and in the process so far I’ve managed to reduce 17,000 words down to 7,000.
Yeah, I told you guys the opening was rough, and yes, it was. Seriously rough. It took a bit to find my groove, and I have a feeling that in the pre-Alpha, past the opening, I’ll be doing some heavy editing early on.
But for now, I just want to rewrite the opening and then set it aside for the customary wait while I turn to other projects.
Other projects including my next big writing project, an as-yet-untitled YA Sci-Fi adventure that’s a sort of homage to Metroid with a dash of Treasure Island thrown in. I might as well give you the pitch:
Our protagonist, a young teenager named Kel, has wanted their entire life to be an Interstellar Ranger like their ancestor. In fact, they even inherited that ancestor’s Ranger Suit, the high-tech power suit that makes the ISR what they are. Now that they’re old enough, they’ve entered and won the planetary competition that sees new potential recruits chosen to join the trainees of the galaxy’s most elite guardians.
However, on route to become a rookie ranger, the luxury transport cruiser our protagonist is aboard is hijacked by pirates, waylaid from its original course, and crashed into a long-abandoned alien world. Awakening on the surface with nothing but their ancestor’s old Ranger suit, our protagonist sets out to uncover the aim of the pirates, rescue the stranded and scattered survivors, and prove that even a would-be rookie Ranger is a force to be reckoned with!
