Howdy, (I feel I've said that a lot today)
word count to goal: 55,029 words/340k words
So I do have a little bit of art assets made to look at this time. The above is my first crack at what Twilight's bedroom will look like, a place we will probably spend the majority of the story in. So far, I've finished two routes and almost finished a third. I had to slow down on writing a bit though, as much as I want to be all like '20k words in one day lets gooooo!' I know that is a surefire way to burnout again. I am going to do my best to avoid burnout this time. Just because I can write like a million words in six months, doesn't mean that I should write a million words in six months, that task though completed, ruined my ability to write for a few years.
Still working hard though, I know my art skills are severely lacking compared to say, Lunar Lace, Twisted Scarlet, or Tiarawhy. I have six to eight months to try and catch up to them. No that is not possible, but I can at least help bridge that gap in the meantime. I can also be a little more forgiving with myself because I am releasing this monster of a story for free, this is not going to be sold (pretty sure hasbro would have my balls/ladyballs if I tried that). But money is also not the goal.
I've had a long time to think about it. A long time to reflect and try to figure not only what I am doing this year, but why I am doing it. Maybe it's all silly, scratch that, I know it is silly. As I sit here listening to classic rock (and some brony music), I think about what it is that is pushing me forward. So at complete certainty that I will reveal myself as a mad man/it/thing/creature I will open up a bit on the insanity that is me.
Before mlpfim, I had discovered my love of yuri thanks to Tales of Vesperia. Yes I had moments of clarity before that, moments of the awesome power of yuri in my own early works. But it didn't click until then. Eventually, I moved onto Adventure Time because it has some good yuri potential as well. Then I had discovered my little pony. I was aware of my little pony, vaguely, but I hadn't realized the awesome music I was listening too 'wooden toaster and living tombstone' were both brony musics. So I checked out the show. From one episode alone, I fell in love. Watching three episodes a day on the hub, I caught up and watched all three seasons. The first day I saw them, it clicked, the power of yuri shipping, of lesbian horse love. Pink horse had to love rainbow horse, or perhaps yellow horse would love rainbow horse, and purple horse could love white horse. (It took a few days to get their names down, as well as my first thirty fan pictures of which I still have in a special folder)
What I soon discovered was a fandom unlike anything I'd ever seen, a place that I could finally, truly call home. Magical Lesbian shipping wasn't just popular, it was the default ship. Straight ships, nah those are the weirdos, get them out of here... okay they can stay, we'll share space cus we're nice. But it was the perfect home for magical lesbians. Something that I had been searching for, for so many years. Mlpfim wasn't just a safe home for me, for years it was a religion. Fan art, fanfictions, fan animations, and fan music. I clung to the series with a dying grip all the way until season nine. I had this weird way of watching the later seasons, I would wait for them to finish then I would watch 'most' of the season barring a few episodes that were written by idiots. Then I saw the ending to season 9, the last episode, and the one good virtue of it 'lyra x bonbon marriage' aside, the episode ruined everything for me. Still has left a lot of damage to be honest, they harry pottered my religion.
That's just the official show though, it was fine if the official show went to crap. The last few seasons dipped in quality anyway. But I still had my fandom. I could still count on fans making lesbian pony comics, lesbian pony music, lesbian pony art. It was amazing. I still had a home, even if the show itself was not there for me anymore. I took some time to break away from the cause so I could explore a few other things, like magical lesbians in a jrpg setting, or anthro setting. It was fun, it was good.
Then I decided to check on the lesbian ponies, see where that was going for some new inspiration...
then I discovered it...
The horror of what was lost.
It seems somewhere between 2022 and 2023 almost all lesbian pony ceased to exist. It was hard to even find lesbian anthros in this time frame, but actual ferals, the morally correct choice for bronies? Nah, they're all gone. Gone I tellz ya. It was a moment of going on vacation to discover yourself, confident that you could just go home when you were done, only to come home and find out that your house had been destroyed and a parking lot paved in its place. Lesbian feral ponies were almost all gone. Through intense searching, I have found a list of merely six people still actively making lesbian or bisexual feral ponies, and I am one of them. We are the world's shittiest power rangers, and we don't even communicate with each other.
At the very least, there are still fanfic stories being made, but outside of that the only other place with lesbian ponies are SFM videos on youtube of the ponies making out for thirty seconds... no I don't quite know why that's a thing, glad it exists, I just can't explain why that's all that's left lol. So when I had this revelation last year, that my entire house of cards wasn't just toppled it was gone, the cards lit on fire while some evil corporate overlord laughed. It wounded me for a long while.
But now we come to where I am now. Seeing the destruction of that which I held so dear. I have taken it upon myself to go on this pilgrimage. To create as much lesbian pony material as I could. I made a comic, I made a few visual novels, I made a clicker idle game, but now I am on the path to the final challenge, the biggest pony dating sim ever made. One pony dating sim to fulfill all pony dating sim needs. It will take all year, sure. But it doesn't just deserve to exist, it needs to exist. I will make as much lesbian pony content as I can before it all turns to ash, and with any luck, someone actually competent will see what I'm doing and say 'hey, I can do that, but better' and then make something themselves, and if they do, I will play it, and I will love it.
So yes, I am a deranged, zealous, insane creature of the furthest void, but I am also the one creature inane and insane enough to do this task. This is the year of the pony, and this will be the year that the few of us who are left, will get the things we need, things we have deserved for many years now.

That was a cool journey! There were a bunch of bumps but that is just the sign of a fandom maturing and becoming independent while maintaining our own culture! Hopefully it’s smooth sailing for you and your 340k words from here on!
I like those gay little ponies as well, and from derpibooru and fimfiction I find myself drawn to these cuties loving each other. Whether when they are full of angst or just being sweet. Sometimes they even get real Stupid but I find enjoyment within all the same!
