I Lost It… · 10:17pm February 7th
…Today at work while we (my co-workers and I) were clearing out an abandoned part of a tent city where I live. Here‘s why:
A man that lived in a nearby tent helped us out with the clean up. He told us the story of how he got hooked on drugs, which cost him his home and family. He told us how he rationalized it for the longest time by saying it was his medicine. He then said that he had thought about committing a crime so that he could go to prison to stay warm and get three meals a day but ultimately decided against it because after he got out, he would still be in the same situation.
This is what broke me: when we finished, he didn‘t ask for money but rather a bottle of water…and we didn‘t take any today. All this man wanted in return for helping was some water and we weren‘t able to oblige.
Maybe pick one up and go back?
Where do you work??? (Just wondering)
