Not actually editing yet- just making a first run at laying out pages to get a rough starting estimate I can use to get the printing quotes. That has to be done before I can set the Kickstarter goals.
But so far I'm up to Sol 105, which is the end of what will be Chapter Fourteen.
That comes in as page 276 (leaving eight pages for titles, dedications, etc. at the front).
... not to vend, but to attend. (I will have CSP and Fort Libris in the car... a couple blocks away... but I won't be bringing them in, because in-venue sales are for people who paid for that.)
But more to the point, I'll be handing out cards announcing something there.
Oh, wow. Hey, is that thing in the top banner what they've been driving all this time? I did not picture that at all.
In other news, due to bad planning, last time the hardcovers of Changeling Space Program were available, I got 2 extra copies, and one extra art book. This first one of you that messages me, and is willing to cover postage, can have them. Note that they're being mailed from Canada, so postage might be high.
5828968 A CSP manga would run at least seven volumes, probably a good bit longer. And printed via short-run printers? It would not be cheap in the least, even before I paid the artist to do it.
5828984 The thing in the top banner is pretty much the same rover they used in the movie. It is NOT how I envisioned it myself from the book- for one thing, that has no real roof surface to carry things like solar panels, and a crane and winch would have made various parts of the story MUCH easier- but the artists need something for reference, and I wasn't willing to demand a redraw over something like that.
The artwork in question is the planned wraparound cover for the one-volume abridged edition. I commissioned it at the same time I got the licenses for Avonder's editions' cover art- well before Putin tried to grab Kyiv. It's an illustration of the events of Sol 303, with the back being art of the crater.
Is it wrong that I'd love to read another story involving this team? I mean, I'm not sure what it would be about, but they had such a wonderful dynamic.
5829273 Well, you have my permission to use any of the artwork I've commissioned for this story. Would you also prefer permission directly from those artists?
And what if there's art that's been started, but not completed? There's one I commissioned for Sol 328 and a video I've wanted to make that was begun but not finished (since the video's production is stalled); I could finish commissioning it if there's a chance it could be included in this book.
5829323 Yes, I'd need the artists' permission too.
As for other things, I'm trying not to commission art that's already been seen- more art is better art- so if you have something you want in, it'd be nice if you could get moving on it.
5829344 If I seek permission from artists of existing art of this story, should I refer them to this page for context, and then PM you screenshots of their permission, if they give it?
HUZZAH!
Holy hell! Huge news!
HELL YES!!
I think one of the first rules I take from this and similar stories would be,
There are no temporary structures on Mars
There are no permanent structures on Mars.
If you try and use them as such, youre likely to find out they end up as the other when you didnt want it to.
Also. Death Match Picture.
If you could only have one A1 printed wall image, would it be
Spitfire verses The Planet
Cave Farm verses Entropy? (Silent Running)
nice!
Now if only i could win the lotery so i can help fund this without starving or not paying rent next month
though honestly if i won the lotery what i'd actualy do is try to convince you to make a CSP comic/graphic novel
Oh, wow.

(That is a lot of commas in one sentence.)
Nice!
FUCK YEAH

Finally! I missed the boat the first time around, so I'm excited to get another shot!
Definitly interested in the Maretian. The full enchilada.

Can the book also include illustrations of this story that already exist, but weren't made specifically for it?
5829235 That depends on the artist.

5829371 Direct contact, please, if that's at all possible.
5829395
Yes, of course. I've PM'd you before. I'll start messaging artists who've illustrated for The Maretian before.

Hello Kris! I'm one of the artists Dogman15 commissioned, I've sent you a direct message as requested!
