So I don't have the mental fortitude at this moment...

...to turn this into a full story, but I guess this concept has been weighing on my mind for some time, and I even dreamt about it last night. Go figure, it's my first full EQG dream in a long, long time.

Warning 1: This is going to be long. And a bit stream-of-consciousness-y.

    Currently @ Mexico City Airport

Alas, my visit is at an end. It's been pretty fun visiting family and friends, but the time has arrived to leave once more and head home.

If you guys don't see an arrival update by Thursday evening, contact your local representative or news network. (Or both). Because I'll be preemptively blaming TSA for being jerks.

    Update!

Today I remember that time I hugged Susan Ivanova

I was in London at the time, so it was probably around 2002.

I was already aware of what depicted here, but it's a good summation of these tropes and worldview.
I recommend that channel, it can offer a lot of similar insight

seen the movie that this is based on. Let the right one in. instant classic horror film.

as for what the video is breaking down? i think it is fantastic. very insightful

I think the video did entirely miss the point that classic fairly tale monster stories were meant to teach people these rules of society, though. Don't let strangers in, don't make agreements/deals without knowing all the details, don't play near the water. The monsters are immediate physical manifestations of the dangers inherent in all of these situations; the vampire will drink your blood, the fae will abduct you, the water spirit will drag you into the river.

That's why the monsters don't act unless these rules are broken; because the stories are meant to teach you that as long as you follow the rules, you are safe.

yeah, someone had sort of mentioned that in the comments too. I did find it funny that it turned into less of an analysis of that, and more into a question of "what makes us monsters."

Yeah the video kind of missed the point for the stories.

I think it's more like that it's making a different point. I agree that the video's thesis doesn't match the morals of the fables, but it's still interesting and worth contemplating.
