Rubicon Update, as promised! · 1:37am January 14th
Hey gang!
As promised, this is the "State of things going forward" blog post. We've got things to talk about and share, so let's dive in!
First and foremost, wow! Its been crazy seeing volume 1 of Rubicon be finished and people reacting to the way it ended! You guys and gals and nonbinary pals have been great, and we love your comments! Its done so much for us over the course of the story to read your thoughts and feelings and predictions, and its made the writing process ten times more a joy!
But we all know you're not here for that.
You're here to find out what's happening next, and when I'll be posting again.
So here's what's going to be going on.
The next part of Rubicon is what I've been loosely titling "The Summer Arc." Rather than one long story volume, it will be made up of a bunch of shorter stories--some of them one or two chapter "one-shots", some of longer format like Supernova or our version of Legend of Everfree, and a few in the middle. There are roughly 3 phases of this arc.
Phase 1 is already in the writing room, with one of the stories about half drafted and the others in the outline process. Those stories are as follows:
- No Need For a Fairy Godmother: A Parent's Guide to Raising Gifted Teens
- Therapy Sessions
- The Great Swimsuit Caper
- Harmony (Finally plan to finish this one.)
- Our Version of LoE
Phase 2 is loosely planned, and follows after the End of our Everfree story dealing with some of the changes happening to characters and the world. That phase is currently in the loose outline stage and being expanded on, with no real permanent titles for most of them and just working ones. This is the current story list, but more may be added in the future:
- Vicissitude
- Inner Demon
- From Always to Forever (Another One I really want to finally put to pen because it matters)
- Supernova
- Memories of the Little Sun
Phase 3 is the shortest, and exists as a series of shorts about secondary characters, antagonists, and setting up for how Volume 2 is going to open. I dont have any titles or details planned, these exist only as a list of "Stories about: [List of characters]" There are at least 3 of them, plus a loose short to kick off what I'm lovingly calling the "Monster Du Jour Problem" planned for Arc 2.
That all being said, I've been a little delayed in really putting my focus to anything--family drama has been extremely stress inducing the last few weeks, and its affected my mood, emotions, and ability to write more than 300-500 words a day. I'm trying to shake off the funk, but its proving pernicious.
Tentative plans right now, I'd like to finish writing most of the shorter bits of phase 1 and be actively working on the Everfree story before I start posting, so I'm thinking a month or two from now, bare minimum. I will be updating in more detail as I get more things sorted, but that should give me the time to get my head sorted and get to work on some of the writing. The benefit is that I'm still really excited for the story and to be able to tell the next part, so there's no worry about us abandoning the project barring the end of the world or some such catastrophe.
I know its a little sparse on details, in terms of what each of the stories is about, but I figured you all might enjoy the chance to speculate on the contents based on the titles of some of them, haha.
We do have one thing to throw out there. We know people enjoyed the OC cameos for the Games, seeing their characters make small appearances. We were thinking of doing something similar for Everfree, putting a call out for people to submit OCs to us via DMs with a brief descriptor of what they look like, their basic personality, whether they were a CHS or a CPA student during the Games, and how they were affected by the events of the Games. Figured we'd put feelers out and see if there was interest in that kind of thing again?

Great hearing you guys are, well, surviving at least, family drama is always one of those things that has a million answers to deal with. You know, is it family drama where two of your uncles stumble into the backyard after yelling at each other for three hours straight, and then walk back in with bloody noses acting like old friends, or is it the 'neice really hates maths homework' family drama, or the good old mum's convinced of X, Y or Z thing and you can't convince her otherwise fun, it's like a grab bag at a party but infinitely less enjoyable. Hopefully it all clears ip and calms down for you guys soon.
What we've got here is stellar news though, and I am super stoked to see what we've got ahead of us. Like, soon as I saw the list of titles I actually hit a "let's fucking go" loud enough to startle my dog,so definitely looking forward to it.
Finally, Fimfic didn't alert me to your reply at the end of Choices, but I did find it about four days ago. It's owed a reply, and I am working on one, but, to be honest, I am a loud, opinionated individual, with a habit of caring little for how I appear to strangers, a worse habit of making jokes to tackle when I'm uncomfortable, and then the fact that I grew up socializing like shit because I was always in fights instead, meaning that as a bit of an introvert, talking to people I don't know always leaves me fighting the habit to make jokes.
But I can recognise these faults for what they are, so I wanted to let you know, I am going to respond to it. In particular, there's a brave tune in your reply I got that deserves a response thats more respectful than my knee jerk penchant towards cursing, joking, or idly threatening violence against someone or something that may deserve it, like Itchy-beard of the famed Kunt'pntid'bi'wee'lasies tribe.

I cannot figure out how I 'm following you but I never get chapter updates or vlog post notices. I just saw this today because I went looking for it. I really need to figure out what's up before you start kicking out the new stuff.
Having said that, I wonder what's gonna be up with Timber Spruce now that Twitwi is no longer available. Hmmmmm.

As I've addressed a couple of times, not at this point. In order to do any kind of physical release, I would have to do a bunch of editing, formatting, and artwork, along with splitting up Volume 1 into like....4 or 5 books (not as easy as it sounds.) That all would take time and money especially that I do not have. While I'd love to get a printed copy for even just myself, its...not feasible at the moment. If I win the lottery, or suddenly come into a million dollars, we'll revisit that.

Ah yes, the grab bag of "How my fucking family is a goddamned pain in my ass". Its like drawing letters for a scrabble game. You pray it'll be something good, but nope, inevitably you end up with all useless consonants and both the Q and the Z.
Yeah, I'm excited to be writing them--so far so good. About 40K into the first short story and its hilarious.
