Standing Up in a World that Shoots You Down · 3:39am January 13th
(Slightly political, just to disclaimer)
To be clear, I support everyone's right in freedom of expression as long as you're not threatening people. Even if you're religious or believe in traditional values, I fully believe people should be proud of their morals...as long as they respect other people's lifestyles and decisions to choose otherwise.
In the United States in the year 2025, I've experienced both online and irl people who are deathly afraid of expressing their identity or their hobbies openly. Mainly other furries besides myself and trans people that I've spoken too. In this month alone I've experienced intimating behavior because the radicals affirmed by the election now think that its okay to bully minorities and people different from themselves, oftentimes when they are literally doing nothing but minding their own business. To say you love Jesus is one thing, because I love him too. But to push upon restrictive beliefs toward people who don't want it in the name of "love" doesn't make you a savior, it makes you a fucking bully. I've also encountered drugged up people trying to get in my face, and that may not necessarily be political, but it is a threat to my life as I live it if someone threatens me as a woman minding my own business. It's a sexist and oppressive attack on liberated and free women, and other groups that don't fit into the typical "mold." It's not enough anymore to ignore it, we should talk about it and make our opinions known.
They're doing the same thing, so who cares at this point.
This is pretty disheartening, because everything has a right to exist, and our society’s moral code should at least acknowledge everyone’s equal rights and tell us that violence is hardly ever good, be it verbal or physical.
And the election…I have no clue what is it all about the people being harassed over that. Such a heavy society issue would cause a lot of ruckus, and would definitely be noticed globally because the world is a really connected space at the moment, or at least it’s what I think. I can somehow see trans people getting bullied because the relationship between trans folks and conservatives are never really good, but I don’t get why furries are suddenly part of the equation. I don’t know their things but from random things I see they are anthropomorphic animals (with fur, scales, paws, claws)enthusiasts that like to wear suits and have fun (like what I’ve heard, bronies are diet furries or something). I heard that they are also controversial in some way, but never this bad. That’s what communities are for, to make individuals inside proud of what we are and make joint effort to get things done.
Anyway, at least we are still here and we can still speak our minds to the world. The new year could be a better one if we try.

Furries have a huge overlap with the LGBT community, that is why they're being bullied more. Many trans people are also furries, though not all of them obvs.
Edit: Unfortunately people have been harassed over elections since the beginning of time but I don't remember it being this bad. To the point of where my normally apolitical butt even has to make a post to be nice to people. I wish we can all peacefully agree to disagree but that becomes more difficult with each year.

So basically the overlap between these two communities are so large that they got branded to be similar enough and get the same bullying treatment? That’s just plain silly, those stereotypes really do give people some pretty bad ideas…
And MLP fans got to be a big enough community with a bunch of sexual minorities as well. So I guess we’re lucky that it’s not that well known, or bronies and furries are more separated at the surface. (at least it’s what I think)

Yeah this is a very niche community despite how popular MLP is so definitely a welcoming space for me. I've written fanfics for all kinds of books, movies, shows etc. and didn't really find a "home" with a franchise till MLP. There's just endless ideas with G4 alone, and many with G5 too.
Thanks for commenting, it really helps to hear what someone else had to say on it.
I'm probably going to make a post about this myself at some point. It's a very frightening time for people in the queer/trans community at the moment. I guess I feel it's important to make ourselves known so that if worse truly does come to worst, at least the thoughts, impressions, memories, and people we've left behind will continue.
If you're reading this comment or blogpost and have a trans American friend, please check up on them from time to time. We were an extremely vulnerable, disproportionately attacked minority as it was. This only gets worse from here.

Please don't call trans people "it," stupid, or compare them to animals (dogs and ducks). That's pretty rude and degrading. Any more comments like this will be deleted.
For any future readers, my page is an LGBT safe space and any charged comments will be deleted and the users will be blocked. I still support freedom of expression, but I still have the right to moderate my comments as I see fit đźš«

Beautifully put. It's not easy but I'm going to keep maintaining my page as a safe space for LGBT people to reasonably express themselves.

And it’s also great to hear a response which makes me feel quite warm inside.
You’re welcome. I simply like to think in many ways and express interesting things.
Also about that deleted comment… (possibly controversial opinions ahead) I didn’t pay much attention to the “it” part but I do think that the main point about pronouns hold some weight as I consider the main reason why trans people are lesser accepted than others is because at the moment, they make the society much more complicated. If you ask me, if nothing else, gender (if you wanted to be precise, sex) at least plays an important part in deciding which bathrooms you go to and which sport teams you play in. No offense, but I think currently The society is far too busy dealing with poverty and national competition to be caring about how someone wants be called by everyone else because of their own self-identity rather than how your body is built. At least on the internet it doesn’t matter because people won’t judge you for deciding your gender in your profile because they don’t know you in the flesh.
At the end of the day, transgender is still serious business (as I have a trans friend myself), and deserve a normal place in the minds of people. The situation seems pretty dire in USA according to what you just described, and the political space there is at an all-time low.
May seem terrible, but bottom line, I don’t believe that they have the guts or the power to eliminate the minority voice because it’s impossible and paints them in a terrible light. You still have an entire planet worth of people standing for what’s right even when your country may not.
I appreciate all the meaningful and well intended comments on this post, but I will now just stop responding to comments as I simply don't have the time. My entire point is to just be kind to people. My main priority is to complete my commissions, even in the midst of the nonsense I've dealt with irl. I deeply appreciate the thoughtful comments said, and hope everyone enjoys the content I continue to put out đź‘Ť
