Jinglemas 2024! · 1:03am Nov 25th, 2024
I enrolled again for Jinglemas this year! Jinglemas is the annual story-gifting event run by Shakespearicles and the Breezies, but you all knew that.
Last year was my first time doing Jinglemas and, due to me not reading the rules properly, I ended up writing a flipping ridonkulous 17,000+-worder, The Fire is so Delightful.
It's about Opaline and features more murder and dismemberment than you'd expect for a Christmas fic.
Anyway this year, to save me from tears, I'm following the suggested guideline of 1,000-5,000 words, which should be much more manageable. No idea what I'm going to write yet, I haven't received my assignment. Signups close in one week, so get in quick if you want to take part!
Oh did you not see the suggested word range last year? I assumed you just got into the story and wrote what you felt was needed for what it evolved into. But probably better to aim shorter: that way, if/when it ballooned, it’s still only so long.
Also… hm. Will you be requesting G5 again, and thus getting it to write? I can certainly see it…
Anyway, glad to see you liked it enough to go again. As I explained before, got enough going on that I’m gonna sit this year out, but I wish the continued tradition al the best. It won’t break last year’s record of entries (enrolments opening a week late also doesn’t help), but it’ll still be 100+ stories, that’s a given these days.
I think some people go 'overlong' just because that's what it takes for them to wrestle their assigned prompt into a really good story, though. https://www.fimfiction.net/story/546496/wes-andercolt
