Fic Rec: Feeling That Way, by Super Trampoline · 9:28pm Nov 20th, 2024
Walabio steered me to his group The Skeptics’ Guide to Equestria, which led to a 2016 story by Super Trampoline titled Feeling That Way.
It may be the only 1000-word story in the Royal Canterlot Library, or the only one to deserve it. I will hold this story up to anyone who says that the purpose of stories is to entertain, or that all stories have political intent. (It may be inspired by politics, but the story isn't pushing an agenda. The feelings in the story are ones people on any side of any war could feel.)
Those of you who know Super Trampoline in person will recognize that this doesn't sound like him. On the surface, Super Trampoline usually appears to be all surface. He'd rather smile, laugh, and play silly songs, than discuss Sartre. But this sophisticated, sensitive voice is so authentic that it must have been inside him all this time.
This story is devastating. Bleaker than anything I've written. It will make you miserable. It is definitely not Safe For Ghost (TM). Yet it's saying something that must be said, if only to keep from bursting.
It has been a very, very long time since I reviewed Feeling That Way, long enough that I draw a blank even while reading my own review. Apparently I "got it" about as well as I could being an incurable optimist. Now I'm tempted to read it again, just to see if New Me would take to it any better than Old Me.
In the meantime, consider also reading ST's Anytime. ST specifically called it out to me as being similar to Feeling That Way, which turned out true if my review is anything to go by.
At the very least, it makes him extremely far-left and not an "extremist" as we usually understand the term.
Anyway, the insanity with him isn't his own blog so much as how he'll go into multi-paragraph political rants in comments on random stories at what a saner man would call no provocation. Even Tramp saves that sort of thing for stories and blogs where the politics are front and center.

No wonder we get along!
This, of course, is absolutely untrue.
Your read on people remains massively wrong and poorly justified.

It is untrue if you interpret "the sane people" as "all the sane people". Please don't do that. I'll write "all" if I mean "all". But I will go back and rewrite it to avoid confusion. [EDIT: I removed the whole paragraph. It gave Murcushio license to turn the comments political. So I'm deleting that paragraph and revoking that license.]
I think 2 blog posts and 200 comments trying to prove I'm a spineless coward and/or a Nazi, in the absence of any evidence, for writing against hate, are sufficient justification for that particular claim.
I read both those stories during my early pandemic Fimfiction binge. It’d be a good idea to reread them over the weekend.

Looks like it's time for me to actually write the final story of the trilogy I've been meaning to write for nearly a decade (also a Journey song title), Rubicon.
Thanks for the feature and high praise, Bad Horse.
Man, I don't even know what the context here was, but something was missing.

Ah. Well, I guess I'm making "by that measure" do a lot of work in that sentence. BTW I already deleted that sentence about a month ago. Don't know how you got a hold of it. Had it open in a browser tab?
I dunno what to say. He's always been so nice in person.

I borrowed it from the quote in Herald's post, and it's quoted in Mercushio's post as well; no need for forensics. I've never met Super Trampoline in person, so pony sites are all I've got to go off of.
