If You're In the US, Go Vote.

That's it. That's the post. Go vote.

Because yes, your vote actually matters. Mostly because so many of us are so burned out by this broken system that we don't do it because we can't get the energy to care. That's valid. You still need to do it anyway. Yes, the system is broken, but if you don't at least try, it will never get any better.

If your vote didn't matter, certain people wouldn't work so hard to make it harder to vote, or try to convince you to not vote.

Every vote counts. Even if you live in an area where its a foregone conclusion, the more votes that get tallied, and the more the percentages shift, that gives the people counting the ballots a sense of just what the populace really feels based on their votes.

looks like this will be the first election I miss.

my PCP has been obvious about writing me off (I'm on SSI/Medicaid). I'm told by both parties that I can 'fall by the wayside'/'stay inside or die'.
a Harris canvasser ignored all my 'no solicitation' & 'masking/disabled' signs (no, he didn't wear one), riled my elderly retired hearing alert dog, and when I tried to close the door when I realized he wasn't with the rental company or something (they'd been in the basement & such...) the f'ker put his hand on my inward opening door & said NO to me. I'm in a wheelchair. I had to roll back & use everything to close the door.

so yeah... not gonna wheel up to town hall in pain. no ride. hungry.

and both sides have decided that even in my own apartment, they can try to kill me. f that.

There is a concerted effort to make people the world over, not just in the US, feel hopeless about elections and voting. Millions spent to make you believe things are broken and you should just stay home and stay quiet.
My view is, even if only to spite them, go out and vote.
Sorry for the rant, been sitting at work all day hearing the ultraconservative guy rant about how he isn't going to vote and how bad "the Libs" are has me a bit mouthy today.

:shrugs:

Make a concerted effort to be the change you want to see. Wear a mask! Text your friends who don't have transportation, ask if they need a ride to the polls.

Y'know, if someone were to do that, maybe I'd go. But what do you think the odds are? I can't get a ride to the grocery store. 🤷 A wheelchair is just too inconvenient, so fk me sideways, eh.

Yes, I'm tired. I'm tired of begging for rides to the polls and getting turned down by politically active local people. Do something, don't lecture.

Already did two weeks ago.

Although likely too late now, I think a postal vote could have been the best option for you.
Someone in as vulnerable a position as yours would likely have more to lose than a rich white straight cis guy with no significant health issues. (For all I know, you may tick some of those boxes yourself)

Perhaps the canvassers for the presidential candidates turned you off voting for either of them. Down ballot races and propositions can often be at least as impactful in your daily life.

Ah. I did apply. And it didn't come, although it did show in Informed Delivery.

And I made my way to the inaccessible USPS office (with my 'not made to proceed' wheelchair, bc Medicaid forces an 'in home' setup only, and I have no vehicle), and used a white board to communicate with the manager there, and she shrugged. It was gone. All my missing mail was gone.

So again: I'm tired. I tried.

FTR: Did you know case managers work piecemeal? I'm complex, but apparently a good client bc at least I show up to every appointment. But she still quit for a better job. :tired: so yeah, no one to help get a new one issued, either. fun!

Voted on Halloween... felt appropriate.
