Extra Life 2024: Wrap-up · 2:49pm November 3rd
Well, even after a good night's sleep, I am beside myself.
Yesterday was a record-breaking fundraiser for me.
A total of 14 donations, 12 yesterday, 1 on Friday, and 1 back in January, brings this year's total to $1401. I am currently in 17th place for top Extra-Lifers for Riley Children's Health, out of a total of 198 players.
And that is a personal record in more ways than one. This is my third gold medal year, but it had the lowest start at Game Day, at $85, and it was also the first year where I have not yet made a contribution myself, as I have in years past. For my two previous gold medals, I started Game Day at $200, and $700, leaving considerably less ground to cover to the goal.
So I really don't want to say this is my record; this one belongs to all of you.
I'm certainly not sick of being a broken record yet, because the top donor, once again, is Phazon, whose incredible generosity made up 49.9% of my total this year.
And because I'm only familiar with usernames, and not real names, the only other pair of donations I absolutely know came from here on Fimfiction is CurlySillyPony. If you ever have a story idea you'd like me to try, you know where to find me.
If you were a donor from here on Fimfiction, and I missed you, please let me know, and I'll be sure to edit this post!
Edit: Thanks to justheretoreadstories for donating on the day before as well!
I'd like to hope that my live incentive of the Hot Ones box set helped as well. I'm looking forward to trying most of them again in dishes that aren't chicken nuggets, but so far, none of them really stood out to me as much as my favorite sauce from last year did; #4, the Chocolate Ghost Chipotle sauce, that was really, really good. I'm hoping you all enjoyed watching me melt for the second half of the sauces, especially sauces #8 and #10, Da Bomb and The Last Dab. I don't believe there is anything in my culinary repertoire that can ever make those two palatable in the slightest.
Seriously, I couldn't even read off the ingredients of Da Bomb's bottle because it hurt to speak.
And I'm not done paying for it, no; well into the morning, more than 12 hours later, it is most certainly continuing to "burn twice", as chili-heads like to say.
So how did I do gaming-wise?
Well, a mix of successes, and stream-worthy disasters!
I started Sonic 2 first thing, and choked considerably hard at the very end, dying multiple times at Death Egg due to getting sloppy, ending in 46:38.
Next up, was my StarCraft II Wings of Liberty speedrun on Normal. Only mission time was tracked, and due to an influx of donations, I began doing hot sauces in between missions, so this game took up most of the stream by far. But the run was a success, and I nabbed "Hurry Up, It's Raid Night", with a final time of 6 hours, 18 minutes, 17 seconds. That's not perfectly accurate, because I did forget to pause a few times during in-mission cutscenes, but it was still well below the 8-hour bar.
Next up was a knife-only attempt at Resident Evil HD Remaster. I'm not sure I'll be attempting this one again any time soon, because around the 4-hour mark, the fight with Yawn took over 17 minutes, and I got my throat slit by a hunter when I was 10 feet from the save room. That was understandably the end of the run, because I didn't want to make my audience watch another 15+ minutes of me stabbing a giant snake in the tail.
As we got into late-night, I went into Sonic X Shadow Generations, and nabbed a couple more S-ranks, with a few more yet to get. After that, as fatigue rapidly began to set in, I decided to do an encore of Sonic 2. While my time was slightly better at 43:15, the splits were wildly inaccurate in my sleep-deprived state, and it was still nowhere close to my personal record of 39:51.
I didn't make it to the 18-hour mark still, but at least this time it was just general tiredness that shut me down, instead of a splitting headache. And no wind gusts to knock out power for five seconds this time, either!
I also have to thank my viewers; even the ones who just had me on in the background, or on a secondary monitor while they went about their Saturday. My point is, my viewer count was never at zero, not even at 1:30 AM last night just before ending. Thanks to UltimateHero128 and DarkWolfDadGaming for both always filling the chat, and spreading the word as far as possible. I know CurlySillyPony was there for almost all of it as well. All in all, yesterday was so much fun, and I already can't wait to do it again next year.
Here's to Extra Life 2025! For the kids!
Was a lot of fun to watch the stream and you eating the hot sauce. Glad you had some ice cream ready for the final few sauces!
That death after the snake boss fight was heartbreaking.
For anyone who’s interested:
The pepper used in one of the sauces is 2,693,000 scoville.
I tried to watch what i could, but I had work and the steam wouldn't load for me sometimes. but I'm glad the event went well.
Congrats!
I donated $30 on 11/01/2024.
