(they aren't quite there yet lol)
have I ever told yall how interesting it is to write the same scenes twice, each for a different context?
there's parts here and there that line up. bits of dialogue, an action or two. but aside from that, the wholly independent contexts that the story segment exists in makes the very concept of the scenario interesting to work on.
At the moment, Project Emphenom #16 (and I guess the partial 16.1 that starts off differently but leads into the same ending) builds off of Project Emphenom #4: "Magic" Study, where Gadget reveals to Twilight that she's built a freakin' flamethrower to make up for her inexperience with fire magic. 16.1 is a direct rewrite of 4 leading into Twilight teaching Gadget how to finally use real fire magic, while 16 (which, confusingly, was written after 16.1 because I didn't like how 16.1 turned out) focuses almost entirely on this scene, serving as a (kinda) direct sequel to 4 rather than rehashing it.
Project Emphenom #17, on the other hand, finally gives a glimpse into the other side of things--where it all began, really. Lisa and Zoey. Even though the scenario remains the same - Gadget/Zoey is being taught something that has some degree of inherent danger to it by her mentor figure, the way it's actually implemented is quite different.
In both cases, they're working with heat. Gadget with fire magic, Zoey with soldering. Both have the same mannerisms when speaking, and the same style of internal narration popping up in the narration. Ice cream is still brought up at roughly the same point in time. Their motives are completely different--Gadget wants to learn flame magic for the sake of learning it because she thinks it's neat, while Zoey is learning to solder because she wants to follow in Lisa's footsteps and get into combat robotics (think stuff like Battlebots and Robot Wars).
Two sets of characters that serve as direct mirrors of each other. Two completely different contexts and motives.
But the scenario itself remains the same.
And both chapters serve as pitches to kick off a full Project Emphenom/Fractures fic.
Coming soon. Once I get to the point where Lisa and Zoey are yeeted through a portal, that's when it's done. At the moment, things stand at about 5k words across the main two versions. More if you count 16.1.
Oh also Spike's there and is actually relevant for once. Because he's being directly translated over Pony-Me style to Caleb, Lisa's little brother.
I'm excited

yeeeeeeeeeee
i'm currently planning on extending the content covered in both cases to include their very first moments in the "alternate world" that they travel to.
For the Twilight/Gadget pairing, they're getting sent to an alternate human world compared to the one from Equestria Girls
For Lisa/Zoey, they're going to Equestria lol.
