R.I.P. Maggie Smith · 2:54pm September 27th
We've been losing a lot of talents from the Harry Potter franchise these past few years, including the actors for Hagrid and Dumbledore. And now we can add Professor McGonagall to the list because her actress, Maggie Smith, died today at the age of 89.
In addition to McGonagall, Maggie Smith also starred in the tv show Downtown Abbey as Violet Crawley. And appeared in over fifty films, two of which won Academy Awards: Prime of Miss Jean Broadie in 1969, and California Suite in 1978. She also received four Golden Globe awards, and two additional nominations for Oscars. Plus, she had starring roles in theater.
Her legacy will undoubtly live on in the hearts and minds of the many, many fans of her works.
At least she lived a long, full, life
She will forever be remembered as both a wonderful actress and a true legend. May she rest in peace.
Very tragic indeed.
Also neglected to mention Snape's actor, Alan Rickman.
I'll be honest, before November of last year, I had never seen any of the Harry Potter (and by extension, Fantastic Beasts) movies. Not even the DVD of The Prisoner of Azkaban my parents got me for Christmas one year that was packaged with a movie I actually wanted; Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light. I guess you could call it a case of "Hype Aversion".
That being said, I wish Ms. Smith a very peaceful eternal rest.
She was also in the Sister Act films as the Mother Superior.
So sad to lose her. R.I.P.
She lived quite a life. She will be missed.
